Elliot Moss

New York-based singer/songwriter Elliot Moss makes downcast electronic pop songs that he primarily records and mixes by himself. Coming up in the mid-2010s, releases like Highspeeds and its breakout single, "Slip," utilized minimalist arrangements featuring subtle production tricks and lyrics that often touched on themes of darkness and loss sung in a vocal style that has earned comparisons to Justin Vernon, James Blake, and Thom Yorke. He released his follow-up LP, A Change in Diet, in 2020. Moss' self-produced debut album, Highspeeds, was first issued in 2014 on independent label Bad Future, but it was re-released the following year by American label Grand Jury, Canadian label Dine Alone, and U.K. label Play It Again Sam. Moss initially played solo concerts, including performances at the CMJ and South by Southwest music festivals, but he eventually assembled a five-piece band for live shows. "Slip," a track from Highspeeds, racked up nearly 30 million plays from online streaming services. 2016 saw the release of a single, "Without the Lights," which was followed in 2017 by "Closedloop," both of which appeared on his Boomerang EP later that year. Moss delivered his sophomore full-length, the poignant and anxious A Change in Diet, in early 2020.
