Orden Ogan
Orden Ogan, which translates to "The Order of Fear" using a mash-up of German and Gaelic, is a dynamic German power metal unit with folk and progressive metal elements. Their music is characterized by powerful guitar riffs, epic melodies, and intricate storytelling. Debuting in 2004 with Testimonium A.D., the group issued a string of concept albums, including the European charting To the End (2012), Gunmen (2017), and Final Days (2021), with its infernal mascot Alister Vale as the principal player. The Order of Fear, Orden Ogan's eighth long-player, appeared in 2024.
Orden Ogan was formed in 1996 by drummer Sebastian Grütling and vocalist/guitarist Sebastian Levermann under the moniker Tanzende Aingewaide. The following year, the fledgling group changed its name and began issuing a series of demo tapes (Into Oblivion, 1997; Anthem to the Darkside, 1998; and Soli Deo Gloria, 1999). After enduring a series of lineup changes, the band released its debut full-length album, Testimonium A.D. (2004), followed by their critically acclaimed Yonah Records debut, Vale. The LP was the first outing to feature cover art depicting their mascot, Alister Vale, a cursed immortal who leaves behind chaos in his wake wherever he goes. The album drew favorable comparisons to fellow German power metal practitioners Blind Guardian from the European press and became the band's first release to be issued in Brazil and Japan. Easton Hope appeared in 2010, followed by To the End in 2012, with the latter outing peaking at no.41 on the German charts on the strength of the streaming hit "The Things We Believe In."
Like its predecessors, 2015's Ravenhead and 2017's Gunmen saw the band continue to explore a loosely knit narrative with Alister Vale as the protagonist, showcasing their creativity and storytelling. Final Days, the group's sixth long-player, reached number three on the German charts and spawned the Final Days (Orden Ogan and Friends). Released in 2022, the album included all the tracks from Final Days, including the previously unreleased "December," with guest vocalists from other bands. Early 2024 saw the release of "My Worst Enemy," the lead single from Orden Ogan's eighth full-length effort, The Order of Fear, which arrived later that year. In addition to performing live and releasing albums, the band helped found the popular German metal festival WinterNachtsTraum, a testament to their commitment to the metal community.
