Thrupence

Australian graphic designer/visual artist Jack Vanzet produces melancholy downtempo instrumental electronic music under the name Thrupence. His recordings tend to feature hazy, crackling beats and atmospheric samples of old records. He first attracted attention with his series of "conceptual mixtapes," released on his Bandcamp page, starting with Unfinished Business Tape in 2010. This was followed by another mixtape, Serenade/Promenade, in 2011. The following year brought Vanzet's Voyages EP as well as another mixtape, Thoughts. On the strength of these releases, Vanzet signed to Australian label Future Classic, which issued Lessons (a 17-track release described as the fourth Thrupence mixtape) on vinyl in 2014. Vanzet shared stages with the likes of Shigeto and Flume, and he won an ARIA Award for designing the album cover of Bloom by fellow Australians RÜFÜS. Thrupence's proper debut album, Ideas of Aesthetics, was released by Future Classic in 2017. The album featured two songs sung by Vanzet's brother Edward, and one featuring singer/songwriter Wafia.
