Amindi

Although she conveys a broad range of emotions, sings more often than raps, and moves fluidly across genres, Amindi refers to her music as "pastel rap" for its bright sonics and emphasis on lyrical wordplay. As Amindi K. Fro$t -- a slight modification of her full birth name -- Amindi gained a worldwide audience across 2017 and 2018 with the dancehall-flavored "Pine & Ginger." She has since recorded with the likes of Fat Tony and Isaiah Rashad and released Nice (2021), her debut EP, and Take What You Need (2023), her first mixtape. Those two recordings have seen Amindi's output continue to be variably classified as alternative R&B, hip-hop, and indie. The daughter of Jamaican immigrants, Amindi Kiara Frost was born and raised in Inglewood, California. She soaked up a mix of reggae, gospel, and hip-hop in her household. Ukulele lessons at the age of 12 started her on a path that led to recording music with GarageBand and uploading songs to SoundCloud. While in high school, Amindi made her first commercially issued tracks, and in 2017 -- the same year she appeared in the YouTube reality series SummerBreak -- she broke through with "Pine & Ginger," a pop-adjacent single that drew from her heritage. Picked up by the Atlantic-distributed Big Beat label, "Pine & Ginger" went global and was placed on VP's Reggae Gold 2018 compilation. Amindi released singles such as "Eggs Aisle" and the Kari Faux collaboration "Love Em Leave Em" through Big Beat before securing more artistic control through a new deal with Human Re Sources. By the end of 2020, Amindi released Minztape -- a set of three tracks highlighted by "Mercury Retrograde" -- and another single, "YWSYLS." Having been featured on tracks by the likes of Fat Tony, UNO Stereo, and Raedio, Amindi made her highest profile guest appearance yet on Isaiah Rashad's Top Ten 2021 album The House Is Burning, co-writing and singing on "All Herb," and providing background vocals on two other cuts. Around the same time, Amindi issued Nice, an EP of eight highly reflective songs. She capped her busy 2021 with a contribution to the soundtrack for the fifth season of Issa Rae's Insecure, teaming with 27Delly, Ace Henderson, and Kiah Victoria on "Fantasy." C Both Sides, consisting of "Centipede" and "Cyclops," followed on EQT Recordings in 2022. After a handful of previews, the mixtape Take What You Need was issued the following September through EQT.
