State Property
After establishing himself as a recording artist with Jay-Z and his Roc-a-Fella empire, Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel set out to start his own network with the group State Property. The world got it's first taste of the group on the soundtrack to the 2001 film State Property that starred Sigel and Roc-a-Fella associates Jay-Z, Damon Dash, and Memphis Bleek. At the time of the film's release, State Property included the relatively unknown MCs Rell, Freeway, Oschino, Omillio Sparks, and Young Gunz Neef and Chris Ries. The soundtrack included a breakout hit in the Sigel/Freeway collaboration "Roc the Mic" and resulted in a solo record for Freeway. After taking time to work on other projects, State Property reconvened in 2003, adding hot mic talent Peedi Crakk to the lineup for their second effort, State Property Presents the Chain Gang, Vol. 2.
