OMEN Gaming Laptop 16 or ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G16 OMEN Gaming Laptop 16 or ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G16
Buying help

So as the title says, I need help to decide which of these to buy, the G16 is an open box excellent from best buy keep in mind, the Omen is brand new. They are roughly the same price.

My use for the laptop I end up purchasing would be for college, software engineering, I was looking for a decent laptop for gaming but also as a good notebook for college, not too clunky or gamer looking.

Which one of these is a better deal, form factor (slim, normal looking) , specs and price? If you have another laptop suggestion along the 1000 price with a gpu and nice form let me know.

brand new, 1080p screen can be upgraded to 1440p for 40 dollarsOpen box

Do used prices drop when new generations come out? Do used prices drop when new generations come out?

I'm looking at some great deals for laptops on ebay, and I'm about to push the buy button, but (hopefully without spoiling what I'm looking at) I'll say that the next generation in the line of CPUs they have is dropping in a few weeks. My question is, is it worth waiting for those machines to drop, and for the prices of the ones I'm looking at to go down, or is that just wishful thinking?

Need a little help - budget laptop Need a little help - budget laptop
Buying help

I'm looking for a new laptop for creative work. I've taken a break from my former career in photography, but I'm looking to get started again and need a reasonably fast and budget-friendly laptop. Primarily, I'll be editing photos, but I will also do some graphic design and video editing for personal projects. So, I need something that can handle this workload.

I found the following laptop at B&H: ASUS Vivobook S 15, and I'm wondering if you think it would suffice for my needs. It's within my price range, but I want to make sure it will last a year or two until I can afford something better. In the past, my budget was less of a concern, so I would just buy a high-end MacBook Pro. That was 6+ years ago, and it's no longer fast enough to handle the work.

Buying help

For context, I know NOTHING about computers and have been using a 2018 MacBook Air throughout the entirety of my high school career. Obviously that won’t suffice in running the programs needed for my major… I’m aware that my school will have software suggestions for my specific major, but I’d appreciate hearing directly from current students/those who have been through this already.

Please please give me suggestions on what brands/specs I should be looking at, and maybe explain the specs to me like I’m 5. Can I customize the laptop with certain specs all from the company’s website? Or do I have to mix and match parts like when building a custom computer? I have no idea what I’m doing at all.

Any price is fine, because I understand this type of technology is an investment, but the $800-$1200 range would probably be ideal.

Thank you so much for any guidance at all! :)

ASUS TUF A15, Lenovo LOQ 15 or Lenovo Legion Slim 5 with slightly lower specs? ASUS TUF A15, Lenovo LOQ 15 or Lenovo Legion Slim 5 with slightly lower specs?
Buying help

I’m an architecture student, I want a budget-friendly gaming laptop that is strong for renders and 3D softwares, also I don’t own a PS5 or a next-gen gaming console, which might be the case for a long while, so I want a laptop that also performs well in games. I currently have 3 options that I cannot decide between:

1-ASUS TUF A15 Ryzen 7 7735hs RTX 4060 8gb VRAM 1080p 144hz

2-Lenovo LOQ 15 intel i7 13620h RTX 4060 8gb 1080p 144hz

3-Lenovo Legion Slim 5 intel i7 13700h RTX 4050 6gb VRAM 2K display 165hz

The ASUS is the cheapest, with both the LOQ and the Legion being equally priced. I went to a store and asked one of the workers there about the ASUS and told me so many good stuff about it compared to the LOQ, such as the cooling system and build quality, but watching reviews on this model of ASUS, all comments on it are kinda mixed which makes me scared of getting it, I’m more convinced about getting the LOQ because I heard it has a better display which is something that strongly matters to me.

As for the Legion, I heard that it’s the BEST budget gaming laptop there is, though considering that it’s gpu is 4050 instead of 4060, it makes me scared of regretting my purchase, since 4060 is significantly better than the 4050.

Sorry for all of this text, but I would love some advice, if it is based on personal experience that would be a lot better, but all suggestions are welcome, thanks! :))

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

1200-1750$ USD

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

If it works for the task it’s good. Prefer reliable hardware

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I want a laptop that’s able to work as an Information Technology major. I want it to be able to game lightly not and for it to last for the whole day.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

It needs to be portable for a backpack since I’ll be in college.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

I would prefer a screen that’s large enough for using multiple softwares as I’m an IT major

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Light Gaming. I don’t need Raytracing and max settings

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

120fps and medium settings.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

It doesn’t need to be a touch screen. I want a good keyboard and decent trackpad. It needs to last me 4 years of daily use in college.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

TL;DR I want a daily driver that’s able to do all the tasks of IT/Comp Sci Major and lightly game. It needs to be a portable laptop that has a comfortable amount of battery life.

Want a 2 in 1, but have heard bad things about almost everything I've looked at. Lenovo hinges break easily, ASUS has a heating issue that makes it Russian Roulette to buy, HP is unreliable, Inspirons are "trash", and Galaxybooks are underpowered.

All I want is a relatively portable 2 in 1 that'll last some time (current SP is still functioning okay at 6yrs), and can run art apps, PS/Illustrator, and video editing/encoding without getting super slow and hot! (Doesn't need to be at the same time, and I don't game.)

My last ditch options are the Galaxybook (if yall think it can handle the work I've described above) and Surface Pro 9 or Surface Studio Laptop. If anyone has experience with these options, pls advise between the three (any notes on processor, graphics options, and RAM would be helpful as well).

I'm actually going to be buying the best recommendation i get so don't let me down.

I want to buy a new laptop but I'm not sure what to get. Need one that can handle intense video editing, casual gaming, documents and spreadsheet and light coding; so I need something with bare minimum of an i7 core (or equivalent), 16gb ram, 15-16 inch screen and 500 SSD with preferably hdmi, Bluetooth and USB. Yes I know its a lot but I figure If I'm going to get a good one I need all the features I'll use. I have looked at the lenovo v15 g4 but I saw people saying it was poor quality so I really have no clue what to go for- any suggestions would be appreciated.

Which one of this RTX 4060 notebook should I buy? Which one of this RTX 4060 notebook should I buy?
Buying help

I'm going to buy a used gaming laptop and have selected two options. I've researched and talked to each seller, and both laptops appear to be in equally good condition.

Since this is my first time purchasing a gaming laptop and I'm migrating from my i5-9600K with a GTX 1650 desktop, I would appreciate your help in making the right choice.

I couldn't find much information about the maximum power limits of the GPU and CPU for both laptops. However, I do know that the Dell model has a better cooling solution, which is going to be beneficial for gaming performance.

Given this information, my main question is: Will the Dell's better cooling system and overall features and quality be worth the extra $100 compared to the Gigabyte?
