Real networks comprise from hundreds to millions of interacting elements and permeate all contexts, from technology to biology to society. All of them display non-trivial connectivity patterns, including the small-world phenomenon, making nodes to be separated by a small number of intermediate links. As a consequence, networks present an apparent lack of metric structure and are difficult to map. Yet, many networks have a hidden geometry that enables meaningful maps in the two-dimensional hyperbolic plane. The discovery of such hidden geometry and the understanding of its role have become fundamental questions in network science giving rise to the field of network geometry. This Element reviews fundamental models and methods for the geometric description of real networks with a focus on applications of real network maps, including decentralized routing protocols, geometric community detection, and the self-similar multiscale unfolding of networks by geometric renormalization.

Abstract We investigate the scattering of a plane wave in the hyperbolic plane. We formulate the problem in terms of the Lippmann-Schwinger equation and solve it exactly for barriers modeled as Dirac delta functions running along: (i) N−horizontal lines in the Poincaré upper half-plane; (ii) N− concentric circles centered at the origin; and, (iii) a hypercircle in the Poincaré disk.

<p>This thesis describes the mechanization of Tarski's axioms of plane geometry in the proof verification program Isabelle. The real Cartesian plane is mechanically verified to be a model of Tarski's axioms, thus verifying the consistency of the axiom system. The Klein–Beltrami model of the hyperbolic plane is also defined in Isabelle; in order to achieve this, the projective plane is defined and several theorems about it are proven. The Klein–Beltrami model is then shown in Isabelle to be a model of all of Tarski's axioms except his Euclidean axiom, thus mechanically verifying the independence of the Euclidean axiom — the primary goal of this project. For some of Tarski's axioms, only an insufficient or an inconvenient published proof was found for the theorem that states that the Klein–Beltrami model satisfies the axiom; in these cases, alternative proofs were devised and mechanically verified. These proofs are described in this thesis — most notably, the proof that the model satisfies the axiom of segment construction, and the proof that it satisfies the five-segments axiom. The proof that the model satisfies the upper 2-dimensional axiom also uses some of the lemmas that were used to prove that the model satisfies the five-segments axiom.</p>

A simple interpretation of the PDE for isometric immersion of the hyperbolic plane ℍ 2 into ℝ 4 is given. Thus, necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained. And, under natural additional conditions, we show that there are no complete solutions, but we can have special local solutions.

AbstractIn hyperbolic geometry there are several concepts to measure the breadth or width of a convex set. In the first part of the paper we collect them and compare their properties. Than we introduce a new concept to measure the width and thickness of a convex body. Correspondingly, we define three classes of bodies, bodies of constant with, bodies of constant diameter and bodies having the constant shadow property, respectively. We prove that the property of constant diameter follows to the fulfilment of constant shadow property, and both of them are stronger as the property of constant width. In the last part of this paper, we introduce the thickness of a constant body and prove a variant of Blaschke’s theorem on the larger circle inscribed to a plane-convex body of given thickness and diameter.

In this paper, we prove that the ∗-Ricci tensor of a real hypersurface in complex projective plane ℂP 2 or complex hyperbolic plane ℂH 2 is cyclic parallel if and only if the hypersurface is of type (A). We find some three-dimensional real hypersurfaces having non-vanishing and non-parallel ∗-Ricci tensors which are cyclic parallel.
