Electrochemical CO2 reduction presents a sustainable route to the production of chemicals and fuels. Achieving a narrow product distribution with copper catalysts is challenging and conventional material modifications offer limited control over selectivity. Here, we show that the mild cathodic potentials required to reach high currents in an alkaline gas-fed flow cell permits retention of a surface-bound thiol (4-mercaptopyridine), enabling molecule-directed selective formate generation at high reaction rates. Combined experimental and computational results showed that formate production is favoured due to the inhibition of a CO producing pathway caused by destabilising interactions with the anchored molecule. The immobilisation of molecules to inhibit specific carbon-based products therefore offers a novel approach to rationally tune the selectivity of heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract The factors influencing the optical path stability in a dye laser flow cell are studied numerically and experimentally. A specially designed curved metallic dye flow cell providing a gain medium of 25 mm x 0.5 mm x 0.2 mm along with a compact resonator mechanical assembly is used in the study. The same configuration with gain medium of 15 mm x 0.5 mm x 0.2 mm is successfully used for single mode dye laser. The effects of flow induced vibrations on dye flow cell are studied with and without mechanically coupling it with the resonator structure for flow speeds varying from 1.33 m/s to 6.67 m/s at laser pump position. The effect of the mechanical instability, velocity fluctuation and temperature fluctuations in flowing dye solution on dye laser performance are studied at different flow speeds. These results are compared with the dye laser output parameters and found to be in good agreement. This study is useful in designing a high stability narrowband dye laser.

Adaptive sampling enables selection of individual molecules from sequencing libraries, a unique property of nanopore sequencing. Here we develop our adaptive sampling tool readfish to become "barcode-aware" enabling selection of different targets within barcoded samples or filtering out individual barcodes. We show that multiple human genomes can be assessed for copy number and structural variation on a single sequencing flow cell using sample specific customised target panels.

Abstract In the modern world, sequencing is an integral part of medicine, biology and other scientific fields. The Illimina / Solexa method is a new generation method and relates to methods of mass parallel sequencing. One of the features of using this method is the sequential pumping of various chemicals through the flow cell in which the reaction occurs. For uniformity and high quality of DNA sequencing, it is necessary that the amount of gas in liquids be minimized. Because many it can adversely affect both during chemical reactions and at the stage of recording reaction results. This article will examine the sequencing system using the Illumina\Solexa method using bubble sensors. An algorithm was developed that periodically receives information from bubble sensors in a microfluidic tube. The information received is processed and allows at certain stages to report deviations from the normal conditions for sequencing. The experimental results are presented.
