Common values of C between this and 4th ratio is : 15 and 6. so multiply (A:B:C) by 4 and (C:D) by 10, we get new combined ratio: 32:48:60:70 or 16:24:30:35 answer.

Umakant is at the top of a tower, he makes an angle of depression of 45 degree to see a boat which is 60 meters away from tower. After 5 seconds, the boat races away and now angle of depression to see it is 30 degree. What is the speed of boat ?
06/29/09 www.afterschoool.tk AFTERSCHOOL's MATERIAL FOR PGPSE PARTICIPANTS 147
solution
Height of the tower = 60 meters because angle of depression is 45 degree. When angle is 30 degree: Base / perpendicular = sqrt(3) Base/60 = sqrt(3) =base = 104 approx. Thus boat covers 44 meters in 5 seconds multiplyi to 18/5 = 32 km per hour. Answer

A watch, which is 10 minutes too fast at noon on Monday gains 3 minutes 12 seconds every 24 hours. What will be the time by it at a quarter past ten on the following Saturday morning?
06/29/09 www.afterschoool.tk
229
Solution
From Monday to Friday : 4 days, so 4* 3 minutes and 3 seconds = 12 minutes + 48 seconds. Now 12 o clock on Friday to 10.25 on Saturday gives : 22.25 22.25/24 * 3.2 = 2.97 = 2 minutes + 58 seconds. Add all these : The time displayed by clock will be : 10 + (15minutes + 12 minutes + 48 seconds + 2 minutes 58 seconds + 10 minutes) = 40 minutes and 46 seconds. Answer

Solution.
Suppose, the dealer has suger of 1000 grams costing 1000. He adds 20% inpurities in it : it becomes 1200 gm. Now he sells 800 gms as 1000 gms, so 1200*1000/800 == 1500. He gets 1500 rupees out of it. Two taps can fill a tank in 12 and 30 minutes respectively. If the taps are opened one by one for 1 minute each, in how much time the tank will be filled up starting with 1st ?
1/12 + 1/30 = 42/360 or 360/42 gives 8.3 minutes. Thus it should take at least 8.3 * 2 = 16 minutes. Let us try with 14 minutes.
06/29/09 www.afterschoool.tk AFTERSCHOOL's MATERIAL FOR PGPSE PARTICIPANTS 302
Solution.
14 minutes means 7 minute for each tap. 7/12 or first and 7 / 30 for the second Total = 294/360 Thus we have 66/360 left out which will be filled by the first tap 66/360 1/12 = 33/360, which will be filled by 2nd tap. Thus 33/360 - 1/30 = 21/360 which will now be filled by the first one. Which will take 12 * 21/360 or 7/10 minutes. Thus it has taken 9 minutes + 7/10 minutes. Answer

A mixture of milk and water has milk and water in the ratio 4:1, but we want to make the ratio to 8:1, how much milk should we add in this. Presently , we have 50 liters of this mixture?
06/29/09 www.afterschoool.tk

Solution
Here water will remain fixed. So let us start with water. At present water is 50 *1/5 = 10 liters. Now this water will be 1/9 of the new mixture. That means the total mixture should be 9 times the water. Thus total new mixture should be 90 litres. Out of this 10 liters will be water and 80 litres would be milk. Solution
Let us assume that A and B invested Rs. 4 and 5. for first 3 months: 12 & 15. Now A and B withdraw Re. 1 each. Thus new amounts are 3 and 4 for 7 months. Thus 21 and 28 are the new amounts. The ratio is ((12+21): (15+28) = 33:43 Thus A will get : 33/ (33+43) * 760 = 330 answer.
