Legend states that St. Valentine had been persecuted for being a Christian by Roman Emperor Claudius II. Claudius attempted to persuade Valentine to convert to Roman Paganism, but failed. After Claudius attempts to convert Valentine had failed he was executed, but he didnt leave this world without leaving his mark.

It is said that before Valentines execution had taken place, that he had fallen in love with the daughter of his jailer. He would write letters back & forth with the jailers daughter & in his very last letter signed it from your valentine, which became known as the very first Valentine. Starting the tradition of Valentines Day.
Colombia In Colombia this day is recognized as Love/Friendship Day. It is celebrated on the 3rd Friday & Saturday in September. Anonymous participants exchange gifts, Secret Friend. Quite similar to the traditional Secret Santa.
Denmark & Norway Known as Valentinsdag. Not greatly celebrated to the extent of the U.S. Couples usually just go out to dinner, or send their partner small gifts.

In the U.S. Valentines Day is celebrated on Feb. 14. It has become one of the most popular days for loved ones to exchange gifts such as candy, flowers, & love notes Valentines.
