VIVALDIS FOUR SEASONS (SPRING)

THE MOVEMENT OF SPRING


* The 1st movement of Spring is divided into 6 ritornello themes. * Each theme has its corresponding episode or solo part. * These can be played by either the solo instrument alone or it can be played by the orchestra as a whole.

ST 1

RITORNELLO 1
* This focuses on the main theme, Spring. * In Ritornello 1, several notes are played repeatedly.

EPISODE/SOLO 1
* Focuses on the theme, BIRDS * Listening to this part, we can hear BIRDLIKE TRILLS. * Violin solo.

RITORNELLO AND EPISODE/SOLO 2


-Focuses on Spring once again. -Pauses for a very short period of time and moves on to the solo. -The solo begins softer. -Focuses and represents water. -Has softer dynamics.

RITORNELLO AND EPISODE/SOLO 3


- Once again plays Spring. -Starts in B major for other instruments.

- Dominant in E major for violins.


- Moves on to solo 3, introduced by thunderous repeated notes. -Modulates to C# minor. - Represents thunder and lightning.

RITORNELLO AND EPISODE/SOLO 4


-Begins and ends in C# minor. - Ritornello focuses on Spring. - Episode focuses on Birds. - Has trills and high repeated notes.

RITORNELLO AND EPISODE/SOLO 5 AND 6


- Returns in E major. - Episode 5 is short, represented by a brief change in notes not so different with others.

- Ritornello 6 is composed of the closing tutti.


- Emphasized with the gradual decrease in volume.
