The codes and conventions to use, develop and subvert.

Here are some of the initial horror trailer codes and conventions.

Within my horror movie teaser trailer I hope to use the isolated location whereby there is only a few people for the opening scene as Olivia will be walking home, I have chosen to use this element of horror, as it allows the movie to begin with the eerie atmosphere, the main character will be seen as almost being followed home, the fact that she is walking home alone on an isolated walk path suggests that she is prone to danger and this will help the audience associate feeling and emotions towards her as well understanding her situation as my target audience will be teenagers.

Another element of horror that will be apparent within my trailer is short scenes with fastpaced action and music, this will allow me to be able to display a variety of scenes, actions, and matched with fast music wit will alleviate the idea of danger, threat, emotion and the horror sides of this storyline. The scene that I intend to use fast paced action and music are; when Olivia stabs the girl in the toilet due to her paranoia and delusions of being persecuted, the intensity of the action and music will let the audience to almost feel as though they are in Olivias situation and the dungeon scene where Olivia finds herself strapped to a gurney, with syringes and blood around her and beings to panic, here the music and action will give the audience a feel of Olivias struggle.

I have chosen that I will be developing on the convention of only displaying the well- known characters as in my horror trailer I will be using a character that has no name, however she will also be a key role within the trailer. the girl who gets killed in the toilets is the character that I chosen to remain unnamed, this will make the audience wonder as she is vital in the changing of Olivias personality since Olivia has a moment of red and kills her. Use of weapons is also a convention I will be developing on as traditionally horror tends to have weapons that are habitual such as knives, daggers, etc. Whilst in my horror trailer I will be using pencils, syringes and scalpels as weapons, I have chosen to do this so that I am relating to the time era of when my horror trailer will be released, the audience will not be familiar with traditional weapons and may see them as not as dangerous therefore I have opted an approach to keep them shocked by the weapons used.

I will be subverting the convention of an clear antagonist and protagonist, In my horror trailer this convention will be subverted as the antagonist will not be shown and there will be a puzzling element of who is the protagonist, Olivia will be seen as both Antagonist as well as protagist however this will not be simply realised as I will keep the audience guessing since the father will also be seen as an antagonist.

A final subversion of a convention of horror will be the use of dramatic camera angles to show the character more, I will be subverting this convention in terms of a variety of camera angles and shots not only showing the personality and situation of the main character as well as the action within the scenes, I will be displaying cut aways, wide shots, establishing shots, using the rule of thirds etc. to show more of the action within the scenes and not only focusing on the main character.
