    Prologue -October 12, 1963, He returns to NY -Joined Jesuits in 1928, enlisted in Soviet Missions -Taken as a Vatican Spy (re-read

    Chapter 1 -Why has God allowed this evil to happen? As a young priest, he didnt have unshakeable faith. -Old testament (Israel, Job) -Only in crisis do we turn to God (Aspirin vs. Oxygen analogy) - He regains his strong faith after a short while. Just like his faith was tested, our faiths are constantly being tested. It is our responsibility to rise above and see ourselves in the bigger picture.

    Chapter 2 -Fr. Makar, an old companion in seminary, asks Fr. Ciszek to join him in Russia. Elated, Fr. Ciszek obliges. -He knew he was called to Russia by God. -With time, doubts arose. Was he abandoning his courageous parishioners in Albertyn? -Decides to remain in Albertyn, but with prayer and thought, he knew he must go to Russia. -We all face decisions in our lives. Instead of thinking of our own gains, we should think and make our decisions based on what makes greater the glory of God.
