Lesson Title: Grade Level: Subject: CC/GPSs:

A Treasure Hunt of Epic PROPORTIONS! 7

th

Math

Description of Learning Goals, Standards, Objectives

MCC7.RP.2A Decide whether two quantities are in a proportional relationship, e.g., by testing for equivalent ratios in a table or graphing on a coordinate plane and observing whether the graph is a straight line through the origin.

MCC7.RP.2B Identify the constant of proportionality (unit rate) in tables, graphs, equations, diagrams, and verbal descriptions of proportional relationships.
MCC7.RP.2C Represent proportional relationships by equations. For example, if total cost t is proportional to the number n of items purchased at a constant price p, the relationship between the total cost and the number of items can be expressed as t = pn.

National Technology Standards:

3. Technology Productivity Tools a. use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity. 5. Technology Research Tools a. use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.

Long-Term Learning Goal or Outcome:

ABCD Objectives or Outcomes:

By the end of this unit, I want my students to be able to use their knowledge of ratios to test and decide if two quantities have a proportional relationship and represent that relationship on a graph, as well as being able to find the unit rate given a table, graph, equation, or word problem. Given a Treasure Hunt on Weebly, the learner will be able to answer 8 corresponding questions correctly based off of the information found on the websites.

Description of Assessment
Assessment Plan: When the students successfully complete the 15 problems using the resources provided to them through the treasure hunt website they will show that they have full understanding. When they behave appropriately on the computers and in the computer lab they will show their understanding of how to behave in that environment. The students will be graded based off of a rubric that will cover their completion of the problems and how well they did solving them, their behavior and strategies.

Description of Activities with Technology and Materials

Activity Design: This activity allows students to use various different types of online resources to solve given math problems. This will help students become

more familiar with using the internet to aid them with their homework and classwork. Class starter and lesson connection: I will have a projection of a treasure map on the board that will get the students wondering what were doing in class today. Before going to the computer lab, I will review the previous days activity with the students to get them thinking about what they just learned to help them with the upcoming treasure hunt problems. Teacher and student activities: Once the students are in the computer lab, I will help them navigate to the treasure hunt website, if they need help. After that, I will walk around the lab and observe how the students are using the online resources to solve the problems. I will offer any assistance whenever students ask for my help. The students shouldnt require a lot of my help during this lesson, and no direct instruction is necessary, unless the students request my help. Technology Connection: The lesson will mostly be student-facilitated, and the use of the treasure hunt should allow the students to carryout the lesson without much of my help.

With this activity, students will have the option to either work independently or with a partner. Some students prefer to do computer and online work by themselves. What strategies, materials, etc. are you using to teach children with exceptionalities? The treasure hunt can be found at: kdellinger1.weebly.com/treasure-hunt.html The students will be using the above listed website, a computer, and a handout containing the 15 problems they are to do.

Reflection on Lesson Design

Future Actions : Explain how you incorporated information from the chapter and D2L modules into this lesson plan. The use of Weebly to create an interactive treasure hunt website and how to design it in a way that will catch the attention of the student without distracting them. After considering this lesson plan, what will you

do differently when you design the next lesson in light of your new understandings? Designing this lesson helped me really understand how to write a clear objective using the ABCD method. The objective is meant to clearly, quickly, and concisely lay out whats expected of the students. How does your technology artifact showcase design principles? The website that I created for the treasure hunt does showcase some design principles. There are no harsh or poorly contrasted colors that would be hard to read. There are no distractions that take from the purpose of the website. How does your technology artifact require student use of higher order thinking skills? Students are required to solve a set of problems using the resources provided to them. Theyre asked to predict what a graph will look like in order to determine the proportional relationship. Theyre asked to identify a ratio and proportional relationship, and diagram data sets. How does the technology in your lesson align to the content you are trying to teach in your lesson? The technology in this lesson is used to facilitate the students learning. The treasure hunt website I designed will direct students to websites that will help explain to them the key concepts covered in the problems given on the treasure hunt.
