Department of Computing
The Department of Computing (DoC) was one of the first departments to be
formed within the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) at NUST. In a very short period of time it has established a strong and growing international reputation for both teaching and research in Computing. It has expanded considerably over the last few years, incorporating new programs both at the under-graduate and post-graduate levels. This has also included the development of a PhD program. The Department is equipped with state of the art labs and there is an emphasis on providing suitable resources where required. Our aim is to thoroughly prepare students for their future careers in industry or research. This is accomplished by giving them exposure to relevant hardware and software techniques. Courses are continually reviewed to ensure that important emerging technologies are covered and that our students remain ahead of the innovation curve. Internship opportunities are also provided so that students can apply what they learn in a real work environment. The Department has a wide range of active collaborations with a number of prominent international and national institutes. At the same time we maintain a vibrant and close relationship with the industry. Graduates from our department have gone on to work for significant national and international organizations such as Oracle, Microsoft, IBM and a number of others. Our alumni have strengthened our reputation through their successes at world reputed institutes of higher learning including Stanford, CERN and others. Vision Statement "Department of Computing (DOC) envisions to become an internationally renowned center of education and research in the field of Computing"
Degrees Offered: Bachelors of Science in Computer Science (BS CS) The BSCS program is a new program offered by SEECS. The aim of the degree is twofold: firstly to create well-rounded computer scientists who will fulfill the demand for computer science researchers and software developers in Pakistan and secondly to nurture entrepreneurship among the young computer scientists to promote innovation at the national level. The emphasis of entrepreneurship in the program will hopefully give birth to new developments in the field of computing. The students of this program will help in strengthening research projects in core computer science areas and bring new ideas for establishing independent businesses that shall contribute towards the economy of the country Bachelors of Engineering in Software Engineering (BE SE) Programme Description Software Engineering is the practice of designing and implementing large, reliable, efficient and economical software by applying the principles and practices of engineering. The aim of the Bachelors in Software Engineering degree is to produce well-rounded software engineers who can fulfill the demand for software researchers, academics and developers in Pakistan. While the study of software engineering has a lot in common with computer science, software engineers learn much more about creating high-quality software in a systematic, controlled, and efficient manner. Software engineers are trained in all aspects of the software life cycle, from specification through analysis and design to testing maintenance and evaluation of the product. Software Engineers are concerned with safety and reliability of the product as well as cost and schedule of the development process.
Master of Science in Information Technology (MS IT) Program Description
NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science offers a Master's degree program in Information Technology. The degree aims to equip graduates with a range of technical and managerial skills needed for the successful implementation and management of Information Technology in today's competitive world of business. MS-IT graduates develop an understanding of IT related business, marketing and accounting procedures apart from a sound grounding in technical concepts pertaining to IT, so that they can develop effective IT solutions for all levels within an organization. MS Leading to PhD in Computer Science (MS CS)
Program Description
Department of Computing at NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) is committed to train and produce graduates that have comprehensive knowledge of the largely overlapping fields of Information Technology, Software Engineering, and Computer Science. With this vision, undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Information Technology have been underway for the last many years. Starting from fall semester 2011, SEECS plans to offer another postgraduate degree, which will be called Master of Science in Computer Science leading to PhD in CS. The aim of the degree is to create well-rounded computer scientists who can fulfill the demand for computer science researchers, academics, and practitioners in Pakistan. These computer scientists can also help strengthen SEECS research projects in core computer science areas.
Masters in Information Security (MS-IS) Masters in Innovative Technologies in Education MS (ITE)
The Masters in Innovative Technologies in Education (ITE) is a unique program being offered for the first time ever in Pakistan. It is an irresistibly engaging blend of diverse disciplines and research areas such as psychology of learning and cognition, innovative use of pedagogy to teach and learn, creating universal design and interfaces for inclusive education, design and development of educational games, and innovative educational entrepreneurship. The program is driven by the motivation to dramatically revamp the educational landscape of Pakistan; it therefore aims to provide students a practical forum to look beyond the obvious, to ask questions not yet asked, and to provide innovative solutions that could improve the way people learn in conventional and unconventional settings. Upon completion of this degree program, students will be equipped with the requisite knowledge and experience to take up roles such as instructional designers, educational entrepreneurs, game designers, teachers, teacher trainers, and founders and administrators of innovative educational institutions. PhD in Information Technology PhD programme in information technology provides a unique opportunity to the students to carry out research and advance their knowledge in the field of information technology. A PhD is not just a degree but also the route which prepares the doctorate holder to help transform concepts into reality; it also gives the individual a sense of accomplishment for contributing something new and unique to the corpus of knowledge. The selected applicants will be required to work full time on their research work.
