Primary Research Analysis
Question 1: Age group?
Here you can see the majority of the people I spoke to were in tha age range
of 14 19. This means my readers would be mainly teenagers, so I now know
to aim my magazine at that target audience, however there will be articles
aimed at the elder student. I shall take into consideration that the age range
is very varied and that I have to try and suit my magazine to all ages. This is a
quantitative question as it has a numerical, straight-forward answer.
Question 2: Gender?
Here you can see that I collected an almost equal balance of Males and
Females meaning my research is quite valid and also there is about equal
amounts of each gender. This question was a quantitative question as it also
has a numerical, straight-forward answer.
Question 3: Which of these colour schemes is your favourite?
Most people preferred the Black & White option the best, a lot of people said
it is what they would expect to see. Also you can see an equal balance
between males and females which mean if I decide to go with the black and
white theme then there would be a wider audience than if I chose the pastel
theme which would be more aimed at a female audience. It is apparent that
the Lively and Black & White themes were favoured by the males that I
selected, however as the Black & White option was the most popular I will
most likely try that out first. This question was a quantitative question as it
also has a numerical, straight-forward answer.
Question 4: Which (i f any) of these products do you use?
You can see here the different percentages of people that owned these
products. This shows that everyone I asked has a mobile phone and that
most people have one of the other products. I feel like there is a big market
for online magazines as it has become common practice to use a phone,
laptop or a product with internet capability to view things online and look
things up online. Because of this I would like to make a web friendly design
as it could be possibly viewed online. I believe that this part of my research
was very important also because of how fast news travels, this means if a
new magazine was launched it could get round quite quickly and a lot of
people will know about it in a short amount of time. This question was a
quantitative question as it also has a numerical, straight-forward answer.

Question 5: What types of magazine do you read?
This question was in order to see what kinds of magazines are most
popular among my target audience. This shows that most people prefer
Music and Comic, such as Vibe and Comic Heros. These were closely
followed by Fashion and Gaming. This has helped on what kind of articles
to include in my magazine, and also what kind of things my audience would
like. This question was a quantitative question as it also has a numerical,
straight-forward answer.
Question 6: What makes you want to buy a magazi ne?
I asked this question in order to find out what kind of things to include on the
front cover and what sort of things caught peoples eye. Some people said
they dont buy magazines so I had to include that as an answer. I also
noticed a trend that people tend to observe first such as famous
people or characters, colour/images and uniqueness. I shall try to
add in each of these elements by playing around with colour and
images on the front, also I will try to make it slightly different to
other magazines out there. This is a qualitative question
meaning it has a value, and is normally written.
Question 7: What would you prefer to read about in a college magazi ne?
This was a qualitative question so I have broken down what people said
into 5 different categories. These are the main 5 things I interpreted from
what people had written down. I believe a lot of people wanting to know
about discounts and how they can get/use a student card, which is
something I would include in my magazine. Also people would like to read
about places to go/eat around Norwich, New things happening in college,
the CCN active activities and clubs and finally college improvements. These
things could be good for articles in my magazine and they could make good
coverlines.
