About Asterisks

Exercises with asterisks are optional. If it is stated in the textbook that doing a certain particular part of an
exercise, such as part (a), requires using a graphing calculator or a computer, then that particular part of the
exercise is automatically optional. It is optional whether or not I attach an asterisk to the exercise number, like
17*, or to the label of that particular part, like (a)*. If an excercise is marked as a review exercise, no optional
part of that exercise, (indicated with an asterisk), is part of the review.
