HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS TESTING LAB


Purpose: To determine the acidity/ alkalinity of common household products.
Watch glass
Eye dropper
50 ml beaker

Materials: 11 household products


pH paper
red litmus paper
blue litmus paper
Procedure:

1) Place a small amount of each household product on the red litmus paper and
note results.
2) Place a small amount of each household product on the blue litmus paper and
note results.
3) Place a small amount of each household product on the pH paper and note
results.
4) Decide whether each household product is an acid, base, neutral. Write it
down in your results.

Pre-Lab questions:
1. For each litmus paper result, state whether the substance is an acid, base
or neutral substance.
