Looking Through the Window - Year 4

Our star of the week is someone who

has settled into St Peters very well . He
has made lots of friends and always
gives 100% in all his learning. He is polite
and a thoughtful member of Year 3.
Our star of the week is Ashley

World Book Day

World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March
2015!
The world is full of books and books are full
of worlds! We really want pupils to explore
new worlds by reading books written by
authors which they have not read before!
On Thursday 5th March 2015, we would like
all pupils to dress up as a character from a
book written by an author which they have
not read before. Of course to do this they
will need to have read the book or listened
to the book. Ideally, this book would be a
book from our school library! Why? Firstly,
we have so many fantastic books in our
library! Secondly, we would like pupils to
bring the book with them on Thursday 5th
March and encourage another pupil in
school to read the same book. Obviously, if
the book is from our school library then
sharing the book is much easier!

Other
I have taken down the notice board outside of school, and I will
be writing-up (weather permitting) the days information on the
board located on the playground instead. Everyone can still see
what is going on, as it's where we line-up - it just isn't necessary
to write it up twice!

Artist needed
This year the children have been asked if they could produce a
mural to go around the town as part of the arts and book project
with the young Budleigh arts group. You may remember the
success of Summer Storm last year. If anybody can volunteer any
of their artistic expertise to lead and support this project please
let us know.

Year 4 have been 'looking through the window of history' to the

early Viking attacks on Anglo Saxon England. We have learnt
about the Anglo Saxon chronicle which was written by Anglo
Saxon monks in around 550 to 600 DC. We have begun writing our
own Chronicles by pretending we were the monks who were
witnesses to these terrible events.
You can find out more about the Viking raids at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/vikings
On a completely different note, in PE we have been 'looking
through the window' at different types of traditional dances
around the world. We started in Greece with Greek line dancing,
then jumped down to South Africa for traditional gum boot
dancing. Who knows where our dancing shoes will take us next...

Birthday treats
Please note that from now on we are going to re-apply a school
rule that says children are not allowed to give out cakes and
sweets at school for their birthday.
Whilst I am never the one to want to be a killjoy, there are some
important reasons. We have a growing number of children with
food allergies that we are trying to control. There is also the
pressure it puts on other parents to either provide treats on their
child's birthday, or to allow them to eat a treat when perhaps
they are not normally allowed to do so. There are other ways to
celebrate, and we do this in school, I'm sure your child has other
chances to celebrate sharing treats with friends and family
outside of school. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

Please do visit the blogs at www.st-peters-school.org.uk to see the

latest celebrations and topic news.

Lost Football Boots

A pair of relatively new Adidas football boots, owned by a pupil,
have been lost in school. The pupil attended the popular
lunchtime Football Club on Friday 16th January and like many
pupils left their boots outside.
If you child has accidentally taken these boots please return them
to the school office or to myself.
Mr Lee

Old boots and shin pads

If anyone has any old football boots or shin pads they could let
the school have, then that would be great, as we can loan them
to those that need them.

Taking part is simple. You can either use a pen and paper to record the
birds you see, or use our online counting tool. Just go to rspb.org.uk/

tablet or smartphone and a good view of your garden.
To encourage birds into your garden, so you have the most successful
