the story, Bartholmeu and the
Oobleck by Dr. Seuss. Students will
then create a science experiment
corresponding to the text.

2-PS1-1 plan and conduct an
investigation to describe and
classify different types of materials
by their observable properties
2-PS1-2 analyze data obtained
from testing different substances
Students will be able to.
determine the state of matter
of the oobleck
make observations
draw conclusions
create oobleck

Procedure
(Science Lesson Plan-Planning for Inquiry6E Model)

ENGAGEMENT
Teacher will introduce the book,
Bartholmeu and the Oobleck by Dr.
Seuss. Teacher will ask students to
make predictions based on the
cover of the book.
EXPLORATION
Teacher will demonstrate the
process of creating the oobleck to
allow students to explore the
various states of matter by pouring,
measuring, and mixing.
List big idea conceptual
questions the teacher will use to
encourage and/or focus students
exploration
Solid or liquid?
What happens when you
poke the oobleck?
Does the oobleck bounce?
EXPLANATION
Student will be able to explain the
answer to the following questions
Why do you think the
oobleck turns to a liquid
when you hold it in your
hand?
What do you think the
oobleck would feel like if
you poked it?
Do you think the oobleck
would freeze if you put it in
the freezer?

ELABORATION
Students will add more corn starch
and/or water to make further
observations. Teacher will facilitate
discussion for students to
hypothesize reasoning.
EVALUATION
Teacher will have students
complete a worksheet on the states
of matter. Teacher will have
students hand in worksheet
