The mouth is home to millions of different bacterial types that inhabit plaque
Unlike other types of microorganisms in the body, the bacteria inhabited in the mouth
needs to be mechanically removed.
The mechanical removal of bacteria can be simply done by brushing your teeth
daily.
Plaque in the mouth is harder to remove as the plaque ages.
Old plaque can be formed into calculus.
Calculus can only be removed professionally by a dentist.
Tooth decay occurs when the plaque on the tooth produce.
Gingivitis is caused by inflammation of the gums that are not protected by the
immune system
Signs of gingivitis include redness, swelling, and bleeding of the gums.
If gingivitis is untreated for too long, it can lead to periodontal disease.

eighty percent of adults.
Periodontitis increases chances of diabetes, insulin resistance, and various respiratory
diseases
Periodontitis causes bone loss and loss of soft tissue surrounding the tooth
Severity of periodontitis is directly correlated with chances of a preterm baby
Chances of osteoporosis are higher for women with periodontal disease or those who
are at risk for it.
Pulmonary impairment can be increased by decayed teeth.
Patients with periodontal disease have are more likely to be diagnosed with
rheumatoid arthritis.
Periodontal disease can benefit from physical exercise
Smoking, drinking, and lack of physical activity can make worse/lead to periodontal
disease.
Overall health can be negatively affected by oral hygiene.
A direct correlation between periodontitis and thickening of the carotid artery has
been observed by doctors and dentists.
Obesity can make periodontal disease more serious.

This source was very in depth about the correlation between oral hygiene and health of
the body, emphasizing its effect on not only teeth but other serious conditions especially
