Daisy Divine, Dancing Dog

2nd Grade

1.1 Integration of Learning Outcomes:


Students will be able to draw conclusions using the Graphic
Organizer for Daisy Divine, Dancing Dog.
1.2 Standards:
CC.1.4.2.J
Create an organizational structure that includes reasons and incl
udes a concluding statement.
1.3 Anticipatory Set:
I will activate the students background knowledge by asking
them about specials talents that some dogs have. Then I will share
with them the main character Daisy and her amazing dancing skills.
1.4 Procedures:
Anticipatory Set
Go over vocabulary terms, (ordinary, audience, attention,
officer, commands and imagination)
Have children to turn and talk with a partner about
Read aloud the story Daisy Divine, Dancing Dog.
Stop along the way at predetermined points to ask
questions and point out key details to children
Page 5, ask, Where do you think Daisy is going to go now
that the circus is closed?
Page 9, turn and talk with a partner about whether or not
you think Daisy will stay at the Bibblers and why?
Call on students to share their ideas and thoughts
At the end of the book ask the children what they think of
the name Tiptoe School of Dance
Hand out the Graphic Organizer that goes along with the
Daisy Divine, Dancing Dog story
Using the Smartboard to display the worksheet, model the
first example
Then have children independently fill out the worksheet
Walk around the room, answering any questions that
students may have

1.5 Differentiation:
For students who are struggling I will have them work with a
partner to complete the Graphic Organizer worksheet. For students
who are more advanced I will invite them to pretend they are Daisy
and write a short story of what happened at the new school Daisy is
teaching dance at.
1.6 Closure:
I will end the lesson by going over the worksheet with the class
as a whole, inviting students to come up to the Smartboard and write
in the answers.
1.7 Formative and Summative Assessment:
I will formatively assess the students throughout the entire
lesson, taking mental notes of who is actively engaged and
participating in the reading of the book. During the worksheet activity,
I will walk around and help any students that are struggling.

1.9 Technology:
I will use the Smartboard to project the worksheet and write on.
2.0 Reflection on Planning:
I used this book because it was one that my co-op Ms. Fuchs had
me use with the children in a guided reading group. The book is a
Houghton Mifflin leveled reader, 2.4.1. The worksheet is intended to
prepare the students for questions and thinking skills needed on the
PSSAs.
