Bringing Shakespeare to Life: A Film Festival

Rationale:
Shakespeare once said:
All the world's a stage, and all the men and

women merely players: they have their exits

and their entrances; and one man in his time
plays many parts, his acts being seven
ages.

We have studied Shakespeares Macbeth over the last few weeks, learning to
appreciate Macbeth through the eyes of audience members, understanding context
and literary techniques in a text that is more than 400 years old. We have taken on
the roles of actors, bringing characters to life through our own interpretations. Now,
we will continue to study how theatre lives in the real world through the roles of
writers, directors, and critics.
Essential Questions:
How can we connect personally to Shakespeares Macbeth? How can we make
Macbeth meaningful and relevant to us?
Production Plan

We will produce and film our own versions of Shakespeares play

We will launch our films in a film festival and share our work through an online platform
to connect authentically with our audience
Our films will imaginatively and artistically capture the characters, events, and themes
and literary techniques found in Macbeth

Process:
Goals:

Appreciate, interpret, and connect Macbeth to our personal experience to

create our own meaning
Critically appreciate Macbeth and assess the quality of production and text
interpretation made by ourselves and others.
Develop a controlling idea for each scene that will communicate our purpose
to our audience
Authentically connect and collaborate with our audience

situations you have seen on TV
Keep the traditional language and bring the text to
life using creative methods
Act out the scene yourself
Animate the scene (whiteboard erase techniques)
Other ideas!

B. Script
Develop a controlling idea and purpose for your production
Develop your own original interpretation of the scene (be creative!)
Develop content:
Pull examples and quotes from the text to support your ideas and
provide evidence from the play
Write a detailed script that demonstrates the key events,
characters, and your interpretation
Your script must incorporate your personal experience
Your script must integrate your purpose and audience
Engage in peer review and incorporate feedback into your script so that
your script achieves the desired effect and communicates your key idea
to your targeted audience
C. Storyboard
Create a visual storyboard that visually demonstrates your scenes
intended purpose, sequence, controlling idea, content, and methods to
engage your audience
You must receive peer feedback and teacher approval on your storyboard
before continuing.

Incorporate video production factors:
Voice: volume, tone, stress
Non-verbal factors: Gestures, expression, etc.
Visual: Color, contrast, imagery
Engage in peer and self-assessment using the feedback form. Incorporate
necessary revisions
3: Film Festival
