HEALTH & SAFETY TRAINING COURSE SYLLABUS

IOSH MANAGING SAFELY


Managing Safely is a course for managers and supervisors in any sector and any organisation. This
accredited qualification will provide delegates with an understanding of their individual health and safety
responsibilities and equip them with the necessary skills to manage risks within their workplace.
Practical in its application and featuring various interactive exercises designed to make the training
experience fun, IOSH Managing Safely is an essential qualification that will enable delegates to make a
positive difference to health and safety standards in their workplace.

Duration
The course includes 24 hours of tuition over four days, including assessment time.

Who Should Attend?


The course is designed for managers and supervisors from any size company in any sector with
responsibility for managing risk and resources. No previous qualifications or training is required.

Course Content
The course programme includes eight modules as follows:

Introduction to Managing Safely


Risk Assessment
Risk Control
Health and Safety Legislation

Common Hazards
Investigating Accidents and Incidents
Measuring Performance
Environmental Protection

Learning Outcomes

A broad understanding of individual responsibilities identified under law and company policy
How to incorporate a safety management system into business plans
How to assess risks under the above hazard groups
A robust understanding of civil and criminal law
An understanding of monitoring techniques to ensure safety performance is measured
The importance of protecting the environment

Assessment
On completing the course delegates will sit a closed book 45-minute written test consisting of 20 multiformat questions and undertake a workplace practical assessment. An IOSH Managing safely certificate
is awarded to all those who successfully complete both.
