Re:

Judy Serritella Exemplary Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric

Review of Findings
Upon preparing for my new role as Media Specialist, I have chosen to complete a self-evaluation rubric in order to assess the current standing of the
media center. You will find a review of those findings below. As a result of these findings, I will begin the creation of an action plan to address areas
of weakness.
The rubric addresses the media center in five areas on a scale of basic, proficient, and exemplary. The areas are: Student Achievement and
Instruction, Technology, Staffing, Facilities, Access, and Resources, and Administrative Support,
Student Achievement and Instruction Our school scored basic in all six areas of assessment. Proficiency was not achieved due to the basic
implementation of the AASL standards, lack of initiative for collaborative planning, lack of resources and support for diverse learners, assessment of
student achievement, and recreational reading, and an overall inactive role of the media center specialist and clerk.
Technology Our media center scored a proficient in access to digital collections, technology tools, and technology resources that enhance
instruction. We received a basic rating in the integration of these resources into teaching.
Staffing - This is one of the few areas that we received an exemplary. By employing a full-time media specialist and clerk to meet the FTE
requirements for schools with a base population of 624 or higher, we are in compliance.
Facilities, Access and Resources Our school averaged a proficient rating in this category, only receiving a basic score for flexible scheduling.
Administrative Support Again, this was an area that indicated a need for improvement. The results showed inadequate support on many levels,
from the media specialist, administration, school community, and local community.

Using these results, I plan on devising and implementing an action plan, focusing on the weakest areas first. Once developed, I would like the
implementation of the plan to begin at the start of the second semester.
