Api 510

This document provides calculations for corrosion rate and remaining life of equipment according to API 510 standards. It calculates the long-term and short-term corrosion rates of a test separator using thickness measurements taken over various time intervals. The short-term corrosion rate is determined to be 0.1 inches/year. The remaining life is calculated to be 1 year using the short-term corrosion rate and the actual thickness and required minimum thickness. The next inspection date is recommended to be within 0.5 years or by February 9, 2015, whichever comes first.

Corrosion Rate Determination

Reference: API 510, 10th edition, 7.1.1
The long-term (LT) corrosion rate shall be calculated from the following formula:

Corrosion rate (LT) =

tinitial - tactual
time between tinitial and tactual (years)

The short-term (ST) corrosion rate shall be calculated from the following formula:

Corrosion rate (ST) =

tprevious - tactual
time between tprevious and tactual (years)

Remaining Life Calculation

Reference: API 510, 10th edition 7.2.1
The remaining life of the vessel (in years) shall be calculated from the following formula:

The period between internal or on-stream inspections and thickness measurement inspections shall not exceed one-half the remainin
vessel or 10 years, whichever is less (API 510, 10th edition, 6.5.1.1).
Each aboveground vessel shall be given a visual external inspection at an interval that does not exceed the the lesser of five years or
internal/on-stream inspection (API 510, 10th edition, 6.4.1).
