The document discusses the debate around whether non-exam, arts-based subjects like music, drama, and art should be compulsory in secondary school curriculums. Supporters argue that these subjects help students interact better socially and can improve overall academic performance. However, opponents counter that making these subjects mandatory can overwhelm students with extra work and increase stress, taking time away from subjects like math and science that are seen as more essential. While arts education provides benefits, requiring it could burden students and divert time from other classes. Overall, the document acknowledges there are good arguments on both sides of this issue.

Some educationalists argue that non-exam, arts-based subjects, such as
music, drama, art and craft, should be compulsory in the secondary-school
curriculum. They believe that activities such as these can improve overall academic performance. To what extend do you agree or disagree? Some people believe that students must attend non-exam subjects in their secondary school, whereas others think that it is more important for them to concentrate on essential subjects such as Maths and Physics. Personally, this decision could give both positive and negative effects to the pupils. One reason that scholars should take these arts-based classes is that being equipped with skills learnt in these classes can support the students to integrate with the world easier. In addition, this could make kids to stand more confident in the crowd when they are possessed with a talent. This is particularly problematic if they are not able to be more outstanding, this situation later will lead themselves to become more taciturn, who are not able to harmonize with the society. There is ample evidence that students with talents in these fields compare to students who have same level of education but lack in special skills will achieve and have more relationships which help much in life. The oppenents argue that secondary students should attend in arts-based subject because this can promote them to interact better with the society. While it is true that this benefits them much, the fact is that this overwhelmed students as they have to beared a numerous works at school beside these subjects. Consequently, this will increase stress, causing burden for students. Moreover, the students can use the efforts that they have invested in these subjects such as time and materials for other deficient subjects that they are facing with. In reality, the amount of time using to finish a drawing could be saved to evaluate more maths problems that are more crucial. In conclusion, the fact that this adjustment have both advantages and disadvantages is undeniable but in my opinion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages so this approach should be consider in both ways.
