Roots Classroom Behavior Contract


My goal as a teacher is to make our classroom a safe, welcoming learning environment.
The following classroom rules were formed with the help of the students
to promote a positive atmosphere.

Treat others how you would like to be treated.

Keep our room clean and organized.

Always do our best work.

Raise our hands to share.

Listen to others respectfully.

Have fun while we learn!

The following consequences are in place for any violation of our classroom rules.
1. Warning
2. Lose Dojo Points
3. Lose Dojo Points, conference with Ms. Root, and fill out a Think Sheet.
Parent must sign the Think Sheet and return it to school the next day.
4. Lose Dojo Points, fill out a Think Sheet, and immediate call to parents
5. Report to principals office (Serious concerns only)

Student Pamphlet
I plan to mail a brochure to each of my students during the
summer.
The goal of the brochure is to introduce myself and to
promote student excitement for the upcoming year.
Parent Communication
I will also mail an introductory letter to each parent during
the summer.
The parent letter gives parents knowledge about my
educational background and goals for the year. It also
stresses the importance for having a collaborative parentteacher relationship in order to help their student.
I have also included a parent questionnaire with questions
about family structure, student personality, and other
academic concerns. This will help me learn the needs and
backgrounds of each individual student.
In addition, I have included a volunteer form. I acknowledge
that there are many different family lifestyles; therefore I
have provided volunteer opportunities with varied levels of
commitment.

Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Angela Root and I will be your childs fourth
grade science teacher this year. I am looking forward to building a collaborative relationship with you in
order to have a rewarding and productive year. I am confident that this year will be filled with learning,
growth, and positive memories. I am excited to work with you and your family this school year.
I was born and raised in Bellbrook, Ohio and I graduated from Bellbrook High School. I recently
earned a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Middle Childhood Education from Wright State University.
Through my experiences interning in schools throughout the Miami Valley, I have gained insights and
experience in regards to the teaching profession and I am eager to establish my own classroom. I know
that this year will be a year filled with learning and excitement for both myself and your student.
Throughout the course of the year, our class will be participating in a variety of different
activities. As a science class, much of our learning will be hands-on and project based to allow students
to learn through exploration. In addition, we will be attending several field trips throughout the year
which will allow me to extend student learning into a real-life context. Please be on the lookout for field
trip permission slips to be sent home. If you are interested in chaperoning any of these trips, please
contact me.
I am eager to partner with you to make this year a fun, memorable learning experience for your
child. I believe that open communication and collaboration are important components for your
students success. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting you
at open house and am excited to begin the school year.

Classroom Map Rationale


I would like for my classroom to very colorful and student friendly. As soon as students enter the
room they will feel welcomed and safe. Also, Im a very detail oriented person so I envision my
classroom being very organized, including a lot of storage and labels.
I have included a class library in which students can check out books or use books in class for
research.
My desk will be in the corner facing towards the students. When there are students in the room, I will
very rarely be at my desk. I will be moving about the classroom interacting with the students.
My ideal classroom would have plenty of windows for natural light. On window ledges, my classes
will grow different types of plants. The students will be responsible for taking care of the plants.
A kidney table is provided for group work, tutoring situations, or extra student work space.
I would like to have a long row of countertop with student computers along one wall with storage
cabinets above the workspace. I have also included a sink, mirror, and trashcan in the back of the
room so that students do not disrupt others when using them.
Along another wall will be open lockers for students to store their backpacks and coats. Above the
each locker will be a small cubby that will serve as an individual mailbox for students.
Tables are arranged in groups of 4, which is an appropriate number for cooperative learning group
work. Each desk is positioned so that students can see the board and interact with their group
members. In addition, each table has a color (this will be labeled in the form of a sticker on each
desk). Color labeling desks makes group work and differentiation simple because I can have different
stations set up at each table and can instruct students to work to a certain color table.

Find a Friend Bingo


Students will interact with their peers trying to find
others who have done the items listed and will write
their classmates name in the appropriate square
Students will win a prize (candy/pencil/sticker) for
filling their Bingo board
The goal of this activity is for students to get to know
their peers and create a classroom community
