The Respiratory System

The Respiratory System is

like a mailman. It comes
to your mailbox and
picks up anything to send
out just how the
respiratory system comes
to pick up oxygen. Also
drops off any mail for the
mailboxes just how it
drops off carbon dioxide.

Function
The respiratory system is a
group of organs that are
responsible for taking in
oxygen and taking out
carbon dioxide.

Structures
Nasal Cavity

They bring air into the body. The

small hairs called cilia filter out
dust and other particles.

Bronchi

Two tubes that carry air from the

trachea to then be carried off by
smaller tubes called bronchioles.

Alveolus

Small sac like structure where the

exchange of oxygen and carbon
dioxide happens.

Diaphragm

The muscle found below the lungs

that contracts to inhale and
relaxes to exhale.

Lung Cancer
Lung cancer can start
anywhere in the lungs
and affect any part of
the respiratory system
. The cancer cells can
spread, or grow, to the
lymph nodes and other
parts of the body as well.

Connection
The respiratory system works
well with the circulatory
system. The respiratory system
brings in oxygen to the body and
the circulatory system transports
that oxygen around the body for
energy.

Application
The respiratory system relates to
culture of microorganisms. Culturing
from a secretion called sputum is a
way to investigate respiratory
diseases.
