I was lead counsel in the prosecution of Mr. Lamar for felony sexual assault. The Defendant had three incidents of similar conduct. The facts of this case were particularly difficult due to the fact there was some consensual physical contact prior to the assault and no injuries. This case resulted in a hung jury. The Defendant fired his attorney and ultimately represented himself when retried. His pro se status made the second trial even more of a challenge due to the heightened need for caution in ensuring his rights were adequately protected and the right result was obtained in the absence of defense counsel. Mr. Lamar was convicted.
