The New Facebook Messages

Welcome to the next evolution of Facebook Messages that now lets you:

• Focus on the messages you care about

• Integrate your Chats, Texts, and Email in one place
• Easily maintain your online conversations

How It Works
Your new messages will be prioritized so you always receive messages from your friends first.

All other messages are organized in your “Other” folder. This includes Page Updates and messages
from Groups. You always have the choice to move things from your Messages folder to your Other
folder and vice versa.

Getting Started

As we gradually roll out the new Messages to people over the next few months, you’ll see a notification
that lets you know your Messages have changed.

After you click “Get Started”, we’ll show you a page where you can learn more about some of the
improvements.

While the new interface for your messages is not a drastic design change, there are some new
functions we want people to be aware of.

After you’ve upgraded, you’ll first have the option to choose an email address that corresponds to your
Facebook username. If you don’t yet have a username, you can pick one at that time.

You can also turn on SMS text messaging, so you can send and receive messages from your phone.

If you’re online, you’ll receive your messages in real time on Facebook Chat. You can also respond to
the message through your Chat box.

Additional Features

• Faster communication: If you want, you can send Messages just by hitting your enter key, so
using Messages is as fast (and as casual) as an in-person conversation.

• Revamped Search: Search for either the person you were talking with or what you were talking
about to quickly find your message and all the related context.
• Adding people to a thread: Loop people into conversations more easily.

• Forwarding: Pass a message along to other friends directly.

• Leave a conversation: Opt to remove yourself from a group conversation when you no longer
wish to be involved.
• Sending attachments: Aside from links, photos, and videos, you can now include external files
in your messages, such as documents and spreadsheets.

Privacy Controls
You always have control over who messages you. To control this, simply go to your privacy settings
and choose who can send you messages from the dropdown:
