ideally suited for use in water-cooled engines, heat exchangers,
metal cooling towers, and other metallic equipment which come
in contact with aqueous and aqueous-organic solutions.
A 1um inum :
The most unique activity of VIRCO-PET 30 is its protection
of aluminum. This metal and its alloys are resistant to normal
corrosion but are susceptible to attack by mineral-containing
aqueous and semi-aqueous systems. When alumimum is galvanically
coupled with a more noble metal, corrosion is accelerated.

ALOX 2248C:
Asphalt Additive
The use of asphalt in making good protective films for
steel is desirable because of availability and low cost.
However, most blown asphalts do not make good protective
films for steel because they lack low temperature flexibility
and because they exhibit poor adhesion to steel.
ALOX 2248C improves the low temperature flexibility and
adhesion of most blown asphalts thus making the low cost,
readily available asphalt an effective protective material
for steel.
Since blown asphalts are made from a wide variety of stock
and exhibit a range in melting points, each responds somewhat
differently to the ALOX 2248C additive.
ALOX 2248C is also available as a 50% cutback for those
who cannot handle the 1 0 0 % active material.

BUTROL 33:
Corrosion Inhibitor for Flash Rust Control
Water-based coatings are corrosive to iron unless they are
properly formulated with a corrosion inhibitor. Because of
their corrosivity, many paint manufacturers package such
coatings in either plastic or lined metal containers. Both
types of containers are expensive and often unavailable,
making the use of metal cans necessary. When unlined metal
cans are used to package water-based coatings, BUTROL 33 is
the product of choice for in-can corrosion resistance.
Another corrosion problem associated with water-based
coatings is flash rusting. Flash rusting occurs under
certain conditions when water-based coatings are applied
directly onto ferrous metal substrates. This phenomenon typically
occurs when there is high humidity and slow drying. As the
film dries, water-soluble corrosion products migrate into
the film and become visible as rust-colored spots. Early
rusting is similar to flash rusting, but it occurs after
the paint film has already dried to touch. BUTROL 33 has
demonstrated effectiveness in controlling both flash and
early rusting.

salts.
BUTROL 91 01 :
Long-Term, Liquid Corrosion Inhibitor
BUTROL 9101 is a liquid, organic corrosion inhibitor used
in coatings to provide long-term protection against rusting
and oxidation.
BUTROL 9101 offers the advantage of being free of lead,
chromates, and other toxicologically undesirable metals and
salts. Since the product does not contribute color or hiding
properties, BUTROL 9101 can be used to formulate white and
transparent coatings and can be used in primers as well as
topcoats. Because it is a liquid, BUTROL 9101 can be added
in the letdown or even post-added.

BITUMASTIC 2CB:
A special Surface Conditioner for use with BITUMASTIC No.
300-M, and similar types of bituminous epoxy coatings.
Chemically cured coatings of the coal tar epoxy type cure
rapidly at ambient temperatures producing a hard film which
is highly resistant to solvents. The exceptional solvent
resistance of coatings like BITUMASTIC No. 300M is such that,
once cured, they are not attacked by their own solvent and if
application of a second or subsequent coat is delayed for
longer than 24 hours, at temperatures of 70F or higher,
delamination can occur. At temperatures over 90F, it may not
be possible to obtain satisfactory adhesion of the second or
subsequent coat after an interval as short as 6 hours. The
coating is too smooth and hard to supply a "tooth" for the
second coat to bond and its solvent resistance is such that
it cannot be softened by the second coat. The problem is even
greater when it is necessary to touch up or to repair coatings
which have suffered physical damage by chipping or impact. The
only recognized method of obtaining adhesion of such patch
coats or delayed topcoats is by sanding or brush, sandblasting
the surface of the first coat to obtain sufficient roughness
for mechanical adhesion.
Now KOP-COAT has developed a special surface conditioner,
BITUMASTIC 2CB, as an alternate to sandblasting or sanding. Used
properly BITUMASTIC 2CB will permit application of subsequent
coats of BITUMASTIC 300-M, and similar bituminous epoxy coatings,
toa an existing application that is up to one year old with
adequate adhesion.

RAYBO 85-RUSTIB:
Prevents Metal Corrosion
Features: Stops Rusting Under Paints
System: Solvent
Comments: Cationic Wetting
Usage ( % ) : 0.5% of Solids
Performance:
RAYBO 85-RUSTIB is a cationic wetting agent which is pref-
erentially attracted to steel and arranges itself in a mono-
molecular film at the film-metal interface to produce the
ultimate in corrosion resistance. Settling in packaged primers,
which is often caused by poor wetting, is also profoundly
improved where RAYBO 85 is used.
Basic Concepts:
Red lead and zinc chromate are widely used as pigments in
primers since their action, either singly or combined, at the
film interface is antagonistic to rusting. Nevertheless,
rusting, corrosion, and under-cutting do occur when moisture
find its way between the film and the steel. Rusting of steel
is a progressive action and, once started, proceeds to consume
the metal entirely.
RAYBO 85 is especially useful wherever it is desirable to
wet fibers, such as asbestos fibers, in asphalt paints.
Recommendations:
To the finished paint, add 112% RAYBO 85 by weight (based
on total paint solids).

WATCON 1276:
WATCON 1276 is a non-chromate, non-phosphate blend of
organic and molybdate corrosion inhibitors intended for
use as a corrosion inhibitor in recirculating cooling
water systems where the use of chromates and/or phosphate
based inhibitors are prohibited or restricted.
WATCON 1276 is not intended for use as a complete cooling
water treatment. It is intended for use in cooling systems
as an adjunct for corrosion protection where a scale control
treatment such as WATCON 1 3 0 5 is also used.
WATCON 1276 protects system metal with a corrosion resist-
ant film which is continually renewed during system operation.
This material will not revert under temperature as polyphosphate-
based inhibitors will and is effective in dispersing any dirt
accumulated in the system.
Application:
WATCON 1276 should be metered to the system with a positive
displacement chemical feeder. Dosage is dependent on feedwater
quality and boiler water surface conditions.

TLI :
It stops cooling system corrosion during winter lay-up
TLI forms stable protective film on metal surfaces that
lasts all winter, thus eliminating the rust and corrosion
that can develop during winter storage, and the rust flakes
and chip scale that appear at start-up time.
The TLI program utilizes a unique combination of products
that provide excellent protection to metal surfaces after
exposure to the treated water for as little as 2 hours.
The TLI treatment program uses two products: WESTERN TLI
and WESTERN Microbiocide YR. These materials are both easy
to use liquid formulas and are applied to the system at the
same time. It is not necessary to drain and refill the system
prior to application of the TLI program, since the chemicals
used are compatible with all normal cooling water treatment
products.
Extensive laboratory and field testing have shown that
the TLI program provides excellent protection against rust
and corrosion under all wet and humid conditions. It even
provides protection at the airlwater interface that exists
in partially filled systems.
