Tips PROMOTION

In the workplace, many workers give their all and their best. A job well done always deserves a
reward and this is often fulfilled by a promotion. However, as many have found out, promotions
are not automatic and they may seem to be passing you by. It is never easy to climb up but when
you know your way to the top, you can certainly get there. A promotion can mean more money,
responsibility and satisfaction. According to My ambition, a site that focuses on career building
and development, there are certain things you can do to follow this path of promotion.

Keep in mind that those who play a lot and hard can loose but those who play smart will always
win the day. These tips when employed and articulated well will be your ticket to the top. The
first thing you need to do is look at your performance. Are you doing what you are supposed to
be doing? When you know what is expected, you will acquire a momentum that will lead you to
the right direction. Otherwise, there is no need of outdoing yourself and others when you are not
delivering the right results.

The other tip that will make you stand out from the rest is hard work. You need to do extra and
ask for more. The workload might be overwhelming but promotion only comes to those who are
excellent or do things that are out of the ordinary or beyond expectation. You must employ
utmost dedication to make sure that even as you ask for more, you do not compromise on the
quality of work you deliver.

Another tip for promotion is the workplace is to have a presence. You must be seen at work not
just by your colleagues but by other stakeholders in your line of work. Take advantage of every
opportunity to interact and know that people on top keep a keen eye looking out for those who
stand out.

Do not be shy to embrace new skills and explore a variety. Promotions only come to those who
are aware that this is a dynamic world that smiles on those who are willing to adopt new skills.
Avail yourself to doing things that are considered extra and do not be afraid of this. This will go
a long way in making you the person for consideration when it comes to promotions in the
workplace.

Another tip is to get information first hand from those who are on top. Talk to those that have
been promoted in your organizations and seek advice. Remember, you do not have to learn
through what they say but can learn through their character and how they do their stuff. Action
will speak louder than words. However, you need to be aware that you are doing this to enhance
yourself and not to become another person. Often times, many workers seeking promotion will
pretend to be something they are not.

Another thing that will go a long way in helping you clinch all promotions in the workplace is
having a good mentor. You need to look for someone you respect so that that they can guide you
through your success path accordingly. There are no new secrets to success in life and as you
will discover, those who have gone before you and succeeded will hold the keys to your ultimate
success.
Promotions in the workplace are not as prevalent as they once had been. When companies
were forced to downsize they cut out much of middle management, and in doing so, made it
harder to work your way up the ladder. It is possible to work your way up the ladder but it is all
based on the place of business. Upper management is often a tight knit group. We do not live in
a promotion rich economy at the moment. It is easier to get a promotion changing the company
you work for rather than trying to work your way up the ladder.

According to Jill Andresky Fraser, between 1989 and 1997, entry-level wages for male college
graduates declined by 6.5 percent and women graduates watched their paychecks fall by 7.4
percent. Forty-five million Americans who worked hard for long-term employment lost their job in
the past 20 years.

The white-collar workplace has been in degradation since the 1970s when we had a brutal
recession that scared corporate America and encouraged it to give up leisure time, hearty
benefits and comfortable retirements and Big Brother-style e-mail monitoring.

Companies are always looking at you and what you can do for them at the present moment and
how much you are costing them.

People who usually get promoted are able to:

Do ThereCurrent PositionWell. You are more than capable of performing your current position
to the best of your ability and have processes documented so that if someone were to replace
you they would have no problem.

There Goals are Consistent with Management. The words that come out of your mouth are
consistent with what management wants for the company.

A Team Player and Make the People You Work With Look Good. If you present an idea to
your boss and his boss you make your boss look good by showing that your idea is well thought
out and fits with the company plan.

If you are promoted at your current workplace you have a degree of flexibility and are willing to
work with them. If they want you to go work in another state you are willing to travel to perform
that task.
