Note: It has been reported the optical output from a PS3 will work if:
While the unit is on, hold down [DISPLAY] and then [ON/STANDBY]
Main FW version will show on display (M: 1.00/10301BE)
While Main FW Version is shown, press [TONE +]
DSP FW version will show on display (D: 1.00/10222A68)
While DSP FW Version is shown, press [TONE +]
VSP FW version will show on display (V: 1.01/10309AS)
While VSP FW Version is shown, press [TONE +]
Port FW version will show on display (S: 1.01/10305AEA)
Update FW: While the unit is on, hold down [DISPLAY] and then [ON/STANDBY]
Main FW version will show on display
While Main FW Version is shown, press [TONE +]
DSP FW version will show on display
While DSP FW Version is shown, press [RETURN]
“Auto -> All” will show on display
While “Auto -> All” is shown, press [ENTER]
“S/PDIF Update..” will show on display
Wait for ‘dolby’ and ‘dts’ indicators to begin blinking
Start playing the FW CD in the CD Player
After ~ 20 seconds “DSP Writing...” will show on display
If the display does not change to “DSP Writing...” WAV signal is bad
At 12:45 the disc will finish playing
“FW-Update XX000” will show on display
“FW-Update XX000” counts from 01000 to FF000 (~30 minutes)
When update is finished “OK: Sum=D94CA1F5” will show on display
Unplug AC cord and plug it again. Press [ON/STANDBY]
“Clear” will show on display and then the receiver will standby

3. Connection: DIGITAL (OPTICAL/COAXIAL) ourput of PC/CD Player --> DIGITAL (OPTICAL-1/COAXIAL-1) INPUT of TX-SR608 etc.
* PC needs to be able to handle wav files and output digital audio signal.
* For wav-compatible PCs which do not output audio signal at the above specification,
use a commercially-available USB-AUDIO interface unit. e.g. Onkyo-made ND-S1
* PC needs to run Windows XP. Windows Vista and Windows 7 do not work. Control Panel
* Set wave Volume to Maximum including Volume Control in Control Panel. --> Sounds and Audio Devices

* Instead of PC, CD players with DIGITAL output terminal can be used. --> Turn all the levels to Max.
Note: CD players need to output digital audio signal .
Some CD players and DVD players are not suitable for update because they process audio signal to output.
Burn a CD-R as music disc.
Connection Example

When not display it about 20 seconds later "Writing” .
right digital audio signal is not output.
Check the connection and settings and try again.
When another try results in failure again, use the other update method.
<NOTE 2>
DURING FW UPGRADE, DO NOT TURN OFF THE UNIT. DO NOT REMOVE ANY CONNECTIONS.
These operation will not allow FW Upgrade any more, and the whole board or IC will need replacing.
