2C-E as a so-called “new” designer hallucinogen has recently made the headlines in Oklahoma
due to several overdoses at a unsupervised teen party in a rural community. The chemical was
ordered over the Internet. When I heard the chemical short name, some brain cell in the back of
my mind was stimulated back to life. I knew that I had heard it before.
Years ago, in the 1990’s, during my Wichita days, I read PIHKAL: A Chemical Love
Story by Alexander and Ann Shulgin. 2C-E is chemical number 24 in the book. I have copied
that section from the publically released by the authors Part 2.
The Shulgins tested each of the chemicals in the book themselves and took notes.
Sometimes they had friends take varying doses and recorded their personal thoughts and
responses. At no time were the drugs mixed with other substances, and that is more than likely
what happened at the party.
At the 25mg dose, it is noted below that 2C-E has “a really steep dose/response curve”
meaning that the more you take the more intense the experience can be and ultimately dangerous
to the body, as noted in the comment about the lady who took 30mg.
Disclaimer: The only psychedelics I have tried is LSD, and have dropped three times in
my life, the last time being in spring of 1996 at SXSW. Jean Auel even cautions through her
character Ayla in the Earth’s Children series that psychedelics whether natural or otherwise
should be used with caution – or one may not come back.
