MY OPINION ON SAME SEX MARRIAGE

In our country, gays and lesbians are already accepted in the society and that we mostly see them in the show business, for example John Lapuz, Vice Ganda, Diego and many more gay artists. But, same sex marriage is another story and that the issue about same sex marriage is still a big question mark and that debates about this seem to be never ending. Considering that same sex marriage would be the union of gays/lesbians with the same sex, perhaps it would be unpleasant to see, hear or to let such marriage to happen. On my point of view, allowing same sex marriage to push through would be immoral and it may change the very structure of a true Filipino family. Consider this, if the law recognizes homosexual as the legal equivalent of heterosexual, it will have enormous changes in many areas. Consider just two: Sex education curriculum and adaptation. The sex education curriculum of public schools would have to teach that homosexual and heterosexual marriages are equivalent, which is really opposed by the Philippine society. Homosexual couples will also have equal claim with heterosexual couples in adopting children, forcing us to deny what we know to be true: that it is far better for a child by a mother and a father than by, say, two male homosexuals. Also, the function of marriage is not elastic and broadening its definition to include same sex marriages would stretch it beyond its limitation. New attempts to broaden the definition would surely follow, on what principle grounds could the pro same sex marriage oppose the marriage of two consenting brothers/sisters? How could they explain why most of us deny a marriage license to a bisexual who wants to marry two people? And perhaps more immoral attempts would follow. Same sex marriage would be the first step to more and drastic attempts to change the definition of marriage. Another is that, arguments on same sex marriage are still based on religious grounds and doctrines. Pope John Paul II, the head of the Roman Catholic Church, criticized same sex marriage while his successor Pope Benedict XVI it among the most insidious and treats to the common good today. Christian advocates denies same sex marriage and that it cannot be considered marriages because marriage by definition , necessarily involves the uniting of two members of the opposite sex. In a Christian country like the Philippines, same sex marriage is really opposed by the many and these oppositions are based on religious grounds. Bible verses such as in Genesis 19:4-19-11 command that one not lie with mankind, as with womankind (Leviticus 18:22) and state that those that do shall surely be put to death. In the New Testament, topics of people going against natural use in their lust (Romans 1), the unrighteous (Corinthians 6:8-6:10). From the Islamic perspective, the rulings of Muhammad and the story of Lot in Sodom as condemnation of sexuality. The Catholic Church and other Christian denominations contend that same sex marriage in the Philippines should never be legal for it may have an impact in the society and that practicing same sex marriage is immoral and against the will of God. By no means, I am against same sex marriage because I want a society where immoral things are eradicated and people follow the Gods word.
