A Human Right and A Civil Right As Well As A Political, Social, and Religious Issue

A Human Right and A Civil Right As Well As A Political, Social, and Religious Issue
Our argument is all about "Should same sex/LGBTQ marriages be legalized?" for our
group, we agree with it. LGBT is an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual,
and transgender. What is LGBT? A lesbian woman is one who is romantically,
sexually and/or emotionally attracted to women. A gay man is one who is
romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to men. A bisexual person is
someone who is romantically, sexually and/or emotionally attracted to people of
genders both the same and different to their own. Transgender an umbrella term used
to describe people whose gender identity (internal feeling of being male, female or
non-binary) and/or gender expression, differs from the gender they were assigned at
birth.
People around the world face violence and inequality and sometimes torture, even
execution because of who they love, how they look, or who they are. Same sex/LGBT
marriages has been a hot issue since then. We agree that it should be legalized
because it promotes that no matter what race and age, we are all humans who have the
right to get the happiness and contentment that we deserve especially with our
lifetime partners. In too many countries, being a lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender means living with daily discrimination.
Everyone should be able to feel proud of who they are and who they love. We all have
the right to express ourselves freely. Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights protects everyone’s right to express themselves freely. Every people
has a own rights and freedom to decide or choose what they want, we are born to be
free.
PREVIEW
Point 1
Same-sex marriage is considered to be a human right and a civil right
Point 2
Legalizing same sex marriage will not harm the institution of marriage and it
may even more stable than the heterosexual marriages.
A study published on Apr. 13, 2009 in Social Science Quarterly found that "laws
permitting same-sex marriage or civil unions have no adverse effect on marriage,
divorce, and abortion rates, or the percent of children born out of wedlock." Instead, it
has to do with family stability. There are numerous same sex couples raising
children in loving homes. Although loving, without legalizing homosexual marriages,
those children are denied the stability associated with being in a household with
married parents. For example, when same sex marriage was not legal, child
support was an issue when parents decided to split. No matter who a child’s parents
are, there is no reason not to provide them with the same protections as those raised
by a mother and father.
The Executive Board of the American Anthropological Association found that more
than a century of research has shown "no support whatsoever for the view that either
civilization or viable social orders depend upon marriage as an exclusively
heterosexual institution. Rather, anthropological research supports the conclusion that
a vast array of family types, including families built upon same-sex partnerships, can
contribute to stable and humane societies.
Scientific studies show that the financial, psychological, and physical well-being of
gay people are enhanced by marriage, and that the children of same-sex parents
benefit from being raised by married same-sex couples within a marital union that is
recognized by law and supported by societal institutions. Social science research
indicates that the exclusion of homosexuals from marriage stigmatizes and invites
public discrimination against them, with research also repudiating the notion that
either civilization or viable social orders depend upon restricting marriage to
heterosexuals. Same-sex marriage can provide those in committed same-sex
relationships with relevant government services and make financial demands on them
comparable to that required of those in opposite-sex marriages, and also gives them
legal protections such as inheritance and hospital visitation rights.
Point 3
Legal marriage is a secular institution that should not be limited by religious
objections to same-sex marriage.
The desire to love someone and commit to share lives together is universal. Everyone
has their own ideas of what commitment means and it may take different forms in
different cultures, but love is a universal emotion. The feelings of love and
commitment between couples of the same sex are no different than between couples
of the opposite sex. Same-sex couples simply want the right to have the legal
protections that opposite sex couples take for granted.
As explained by People for the American Way, "As a legal matter, marriage is a civil
institution... Marriage is also a religious institution, defined differently by different
faiths and congregations. In America, the distinction can get blurry because states
permit clergy to carry out both religious and civil marriage in a single ceremony.
Religious Right leaders have exploited that confusion by claiming that granting same-
sex couples equal access to civil marriage would somehow also redefine the religious
institution of marriage... this is grounded in falsehood and deception." Nancy Cott,
PhD, testified in Perry v. Schwarzenegger that "civil law has always been supreme in
defining and regulating marriage."
REMINDER
Denying people the right to marry sent a clear message for many decades, that
discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation was unacceptable. Men and women of
full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion... have the right to
marry and to found a family. Same-sex marriage is considered to be a
human right and a civil right as well as a political, social, and religious issue. Every
individual has a right to express themselves freely and decide what they truly desire
regardless of gender identity and sexual preferences. We all have the right to express
ourselves freely. Like heterosexuals, many lesbian, gay and bisexual people want to
form stable, long-lasting relationships and many of them do. In fact, researchers have
found that the majority of lesbian, and gay, adults are in committed relationships and
many couples have been together 10 or more years. According to the studies, same
sex marriage has to do with family stability. There are numerous same sex couples
raising children in loving homes. Although loving, without legalizing homosexual
marriages, those children are denied the stability associated with being in a household
with married parents. For example, when same sex marriage was not legal, child
support was an issue when parents decided to split. No matter who a child’s parents
are, there is no reason not to provide them with the same protections as those raised
by a mother and father. Also, As explained by People for the American Way, "As a
legal matter, marriage is a civil institution”. The feelings of love and commitment
between couples of the same sex are no different than between couples of the opposite
sex. Same-sex couples simply want the right to have the legal protections that
opposite sex couples take for granted.
