1. Do you agree or disagree with Friedmans assessment that the world is flat? Be sure to justify your answer.

Yes, I agree with Friedmans assessment that the world is flat. Technology plays an important role in this. The use of technology has increased over the past number of years. Technology has made it easier for family and friends to communicate. Technology has also made it easier for businesses in different countries to succeed. 2. What are the potential impacts of a flat world for a student performing a job search?

There are many different search engines on the internet to look for jobs. You have different websites such as monster.com, careerbuilder.com, states unemployment websites, and hotjobs.com. Being able to use a computer to search and apply for jobs gives an individual unlimited access. 3. What can students do to prepare themselves for competing in a flat world?

Students can learn how to become competitive and learn how to not give up so easily. Students can also develop a unique, distinctive characteristic about them that would put them at the top of the list. I also think that a student should be comfortable with bringing forth new ideas.

This week we will embark on Chapter 1, "The Context of Systems Analysis and Design Methods" by Whitten & Bentley (2007). Whitten & Bentley (2007) provides that not too long ago, it was thought hat the systems analysts only real tools were paper, pencil, and a flowchart template. Over the years, several tools and techniques have been developed to help the systems analyst. Unfortunately, many books emphasize a specific class of tools that is associated with one methodology or approach to systems analysis and design. analysis and design. The fact is that an analyst must use tools based on the many different situations to align with the growing array of business and professional, as well as specialty needs that maybe encountered as an analyst, hence the right tool for the right job! In addition to having formal systems analysis and design skills, a systems analyst must develop or possess other skills, knowledge, and traits to complete the job. Discussion Instructions and Grading Rubric

Thus this weeks discussion centers on the Skills Needed by the Systems Analyst. To participate in the discussion research journals and periodicals dating back at least several decades, using the Strayer Online Library and/or the open internet search engines such as Google, Yahoo, etc. Look at several recent articles in information technology journals regarding systems analysis, as well as several articles from at least 25 years ago.

knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience that systems analysts needed 25 years ago compared to now? 1 Point If you found some differences, what are the ones that you consider most important? 1 Point What do you think are some of the reasons for these changes? 1 Point Explanations very clear and well organized. (Added helpful details.). 1 Point Post is with concise sentence, paragraph structure, spelling, punctuation, APA usage employed, and 150 words - minimum. 1 Point Total Discussion Points = 5

Whitten & Bentley (2007) defined a system analyst specializes in studying the troubles and the needs of a company. The system analyst determines if the process that the company is currently using is working for them. The system analysts also find ways for process improvement throughout the company. According to Bryce (2006), there were more programmers employed than system analysts. A programmer was needed more than system analysts back in the 1980s. In the 1980s, the only requirements to become a programmer was being familiar with COBOL, Fortran, or PL/1. According to Todd, McKeen, and Gallupe (1995), a survey was conducted and it was found that system analysts only needed to have good systems skills and great communication skills. Over a period of time, the skills and requirements for systems analyst has increased. I have dealt with systems analysts over a period of time when the computer system wasnt functioning properly, and I have to say one of their skills should be taking initiative and doing the research. I think that great communication skills and the initiative to do research is very important so both parties wont be stressed. The analysts would fail to do the research and would always depend on us do to their research. Now that we are in 2010, good communication skills are still required. Most employers require that the employee have a Bachelors degree in Information Technology or a Masters Degree. Also most employers require experience and that you are familiar with the computer language. I think that some of the reasons for the change is that technology is changing period. Change is occurring daily. An analyst job duty increases daily and the analyst must be able to complete their job. Everybody is going to school for a degree information technology, but there must be something that stands out amongst that analyst. As long as an analyst job functions increases and more responsibilities are taken on, the more education and experience will be required.
