Weather Ford Drillout Procedure
PDC Insert/Rock Bits Using Rotary/Motor Cement 1. Use low WOB (2-4 klbs) and low RPM (60-80 on rotary, or as low as possible on motor) if cement is
tagged high and has to be drilled. As the shoulder cutters take all the weight, low WOB and rotary speed will prevent cutter damage.
2. Use normal flow rates (250-350 gpm) Liner Wiper Plugs and Floats 1. When tagging the plug/s, initially, use low WOB and rotary speed as detailed above to allow the PDC
bit to grip and not to spin. If spinning is suspected, or if progress is slow due to the bit spudding the plug, pull up frequently and allow any debris to be flushed away.
2. Reducing the flow rate can aid drilling as this removes any back-pressure and allows the bit to shear
the rubber/aluminum.
3. If required the WOB can be increased in small increments to 8-10 klbs. Try to keep the rotary speed
as low as possible throughout the entire operation.
4. If the rotary or motor stalls whilst drilling, pick up and establish parameters before proceeding. This
will prevent any damage to the plugs anti-rotation mechanism.
5. Be patient and avoid forcing the bit as this can cause cutter damage due to the aluminum lodging in
the bit face.
