Principle of PH
• Potential difference is developed when two solutions of

different pH values are separated by thin glass membrane

• Potential difference is in proportional to pH value of test

solution

• Reference electrode provides an electrical connection

with the measured solution

AEI305.63 6
Measuring Electrode

• Measuring electrode chemically doped with Lithium ions

• It generates a small voltage 59.16 mv/pH unit

• Measuring electrode made up of with Lithium based All

Purpose (LAP) glasses

• Temperature effect is very small in LAP

AEI305.63 7
Analog pH meter
• Analog pH meter offers a 0 to 14 pH range with mv
readout
• Manual temperature compensation
• Display is Analog form (uniform scale)

Summary

In this period, you have learnt about :

• Analog pH meter does not contain ADC (analog to digital

converter)

• Display is analog form (uniform scale)

• Analog pH meter can be calibrated by using solutions of

pH 4 and 10
AEI305.63 9
Frequently asked Questions
