Simon Balle School 16-19 Bursary Allocation Criteria

Full bursaries These bursaries, of 1,200 per year, are available to students in any of the following categories: young people in care, care leavers, young people in receipt of income support disabled young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance who are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance

Payment Qualifying applicants will receive a bursary of 1,200 per annum (less any amount received as transitional support EMA) paid in ten equal instalments. This will be subject to the student attending all lessons and will be payable in arrears to allow for monitoring. Discretionary bursaries In keeping with current practice on financial support for school activities, Simon Balle School may provide bursaries to support students whose parents are entitled to any of the following state benefits: Free School Meals Income Support Income-based Jobseekers Allowance Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Child Tax Credit, provided the parent is not entitled to Working Tax Credit and an annual income assessed by HMRC which does not exceed 16,190 The guarantee element of State Pension Credit.

Parents will need to provide proof of entitlement to the benefits prior to payment. Payment The School Bursary available is based on funds allocated by the YPLA (Young Peoples Learning Agency) on an annual basis. Student allocations will vary according to demand up to a maximum of 20 per school week. Qualifying applicants will be paid in half-termly instalments subject to the student attending all lessons and will be payable in arrears to allow for monitoring. Entitlement expectations Students eligible for the 16-19 Bursary must meet the criterion of 100% attendance, unless absence is authorised. If this criterion is not met payment will be forfeited for the week affected by absence. Applications Parents and students should complete the application form and send it to the School Finance Office with supporting evidence. The process of application and payments will remain confidential.
