Not only are they content experts, but they also have a solid background in teaching and learning theory, and how to meet a wide range of learning needs. Our classroom teachers work closely with our gifted specialist, reading specialist, guidance counselor, and special education team to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all of our students. Our students use a vast array of TECHNOLOGY as part of the learning process in CFSD and at VV. For example, on any given day, students may be seen using computers, iPads, iPods, and other tools to: conduct research on the Internet; design digital stories; record podcasts; interact and collaborate with their peers, teachers, or students from across the globe; take virtual field trips; engage in simulations. November 1, 2012
Pursuant to A.R.S. 15-816 Catalina Foothills School District will begin its open enrollment procedures for the 2013-2014 school year effective December 1, 2012. The law requires every Arizona school district to follow a prescribed procedure and timetable for admitting out-ofdistrict transfer students and resident transfer students (those who live in the District but are attending a school outside the attendance area of their residence). All students who currently attend CFSD schools and reside in other districts, and all CFSD resident students who are attending a different school than they would based on their residence, are impacted by this law. We require that all open enrollment students apply for admission each year. Therefore, if your child is a resident transfer (open enrollment) student and you want him/her to continue in that capacity, or if your child resides outside of the district and you want him/her to continue to attend a CFSD school next year, please complete an application form between
December 1, 2012, and February 28, 2013. applications and information regarding the application process are on the district web site, www.cfsd16.org (as of December 1, 2012), or
Open Enrollment at the district office Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The district office is located at: Catalina Foothills School District J. W. Murphey Administration Center 2101 E. River Road Tucson, AZ 85718 (520) 209-7537 Applications will be available as of December 1, 2012, and may be completed on line (www.cfsd16.org), or submitted in person at the district office. Electronic applications must be submitted no later than February 28, 2013, and hard copies by 4:00 p.m. February 28, 2013. Decisions about admission, based on capacity, will be made by April l, 2013. At that time, all applicants will be notified whether their applications have been accepted, wait listed, or declined.
ATTENTION PARENTS OF 5th GRADE STUDENTS Please mark your calendars for 5th grade Open House at Esperero Canyon Middle School. Come and meet the faculty, see students in action in various classes, learn about the extra curricular offerings, and get answers to questions you have about middle school life. The date is MONDAY, APRIL 29th, FROM 6:00 PM UNTIL 7:30 PM. Future students are welcome to attend with their parents. If you come 15 minutes early, there will be a panel of current 6th graders to answer questions from students points of view.
Book Exchange!!
library.thinkquest.org
library.thinkquest.org
In addition to all of the Love of Reading Night activities coming March 8th, our school's 4th Book Exchange is also occurring! Who? Every student at Ventana Vista Elementary is invited to participate. What? A book exchange allows you to trade books you are finished with at home, from the hundreds of other books students your age have brought to school to trade. Why? You get to clean off your crowded bookshelves at home that are filled with books you have already read, and refill them with different books! A whole bunch of new books to read! How it works: You will receive a Book Buck for every book you bring from home (make sure it's OK with your parents). -If you bring in Kindergarten-2nd books, then you will
exchange for K-2 books. -If you bring in 3rd-5th grade books, then you will exchange for 3-5 books.
On the night of the Exchange, you select books equal for the ones you traded in (up to *5). When? Start bringing your books from home now! Bring them to the Library and receive your Book Bucks for the Exchange. Friday night, March 8th, the evening of our schools Love of Reading Night, all of the hundreds of books available will be displayed in the MPR. You get to select books equal to the number of Book Bucks you received (1-5)*.
*Extra books will be donated to the Make Way for Books organization who distributes books around our community.
