Reminders: Spring is upon us and early dismissals are on the rise. Please make sure that your student is bringing in their early dismissal notes to the front office. Early dismissals should have your student id and grade on the note. This process will help up save time and eliminate interrupting the class. Early dismissals/Absences will remain unexcused absences until proof of medical appointment/illness is provided. HONDA RAFFLE The Ardrey Kell Booster Clubs are selling raffle tickets for a brand new 2013 Honda Civic. The drawing for the raffle is Saturday March 23rd at the AK Spring Fest. You do not have to be present to win the car. Tickets are $20 each. Ardrey Kell Athletic Booster 7th Annual Golf Tournament Please come out and enjoy a day of golf, food, prizes and fun while supporting the Athletic Booster Club Monday, April 15, 2013 Providence Country Club 1:00 Shotgun start. 11:45 a.m. Registration $125 (includes golf, lunch, dinner, prizes & more) Limited to first 120 golfers. Hurry to secure your spot. Deadline is Monday, April 8, 2013 Senior Build-Up Please dont forget that our school is currently collecting for our Senior Classs Senior Build-Up project!! All monies collected will help fund a Habitat for Humanity build in our schools zone. Please log on to www.seniorbuildup.org, or visit our schools website to donate. As of Friday afternoon, we had raised $6,000, and we are hoping to double that amount to $12,000 by next Friday. Please go online and help us reach our goal! Summer Volunteer Opportunity Camp Invention at Elon Park Elementary School is an inquiry based camp, for rising 1st through 6th grade students, that includes hands-on learning and exciting real world challenges for children to solve. Camp will be held at Elon Park Elementary June 17-20, 2013 from 8:30-4:30. Students should be between 16 and 18 years old and be able to fulfill the following requirements:

The Ardrey Kell MCJROTC is still taking orders for brick purchases for our Knights Court walkway, located in the front of our school. Bricks cost $50 and include three lines of engraving. A perfect way to leave a legacy for your student, past or present, or simply as a family brick! Makes a great senior gift! STUDENT SERVICES Updated GPA and Rank Rank and GPA have been updated and uploaded into Naviance. Due to confidentiality concerns, we will not be able to give you this information over the telephone or via email. Students will need to log into their Naviance account, click on the About Me tab at the top of the page and then click on the profile link located in the official things box. Please scroll to the bottom of your students profile to view the updated GPA and rank. The number listed for your students rank is where their weighted GPA falls in comparison to the total student membership for their grade (which can be found below). If your student has not created a Naviance account, please ask them to email Larry Drucker at L.Drucker@cms.k12.nc.us and he will be able to assist you. 9th grade membership: 653 10th grade membership: 677 11th grade membership: 561 12th grade membership: 563 2013 Heels for Success at UNC-Chapel Hill: Heels for Success is a one-day summer program to help academically-talented, rising sophomores and juniors prepare for college. Students should be from diverse backgrounds, including underrepresented students, first-generation college students, and those from rural areas or disadvantaged backgrounds. Students should be academically motivated, rank in the top 10% of their class, be enrolled in a curriculum that includes (or will include) AP/IB/dual enrollment courses, foreign language, and advanced mathematics. Heels for Success nominees should show active involvement in extracurricular activities and have demonstrated leadership. Over the course of the day, students will learn techniques for approaching the SAT, explore the Carolina campus and its wide-ranging academic opportunities, as well as learn how to manage the college application process. Theyll also get the chance to connect with other outstanding students from across the country. This program is free to students, although we regret that we cannot provide transportation assistance. The deadline for applications and submitting transcripts is March 1, 2013. Students will receive an email notifying them of their decision no later than April 30, 2013. Please see Ms. Roth, in Student Services, by Wednesday, February 27th, if you are interested in being nominated for this program. Attention Seniors: The People Helping People Scholarship is a $10,000 Scholarship given through the State Employees Credit Union, and will be given to one senior at AK. Candidates must demonstrate leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement. Also, you must be planning on attending one of the 16 campuses of the UNC System, and have

at least a 2.5 unweighted GPA. To apply, please submit your resume and a one page essay on why you think you would be the best candidate for this scholarship, to Ms. Braketa in Student Services by Monday, March 25th. Attention Seniors: The Ardrey Kell PTSO is offering ten $1,000 scholarships to current seniors at AK. Students must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5, and you or your family must be members of the PTSO. If you are interested in applying, please pick up an application form in Student Services. The due date is Monday, March 25th.

FAFSA Day FAFSA Day is Saturday, Feb. 23rd from 9 am until noon in most locations. Students who will be in college next year can register at CFNC.org/fafsaday or by calling 866-866-CFNC. FAFSA Phone-In Students and families who are completing the FAFSA themselves and have just a few questions may want to take advantage of the free FAFSA Phone-In service by calling 866-866-CFNC each Tuesday in February from 5-8 pm. Financial aid experts will be available to help families who have completed most of the form but need help answering a few of the questions.
