Important Reminders
Students that need an Agenda and/or ID Badge must pay for one in the front office. If you are
getting an ID Badge you must then take your receipt to the media center to get your ID Badge.
Parents please remember Ardrey Kell is not responsible for any lost or stolen
items that are dropped off for your students. Thank you.

College, Career and Wellness Expo


Ardrey Kell High School will host a College, Career and Wellness Expo on Thursday, April 23,
from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to high school students, as well as parents.
Different sessions will feature speakers addressing college-related topics such as SAT/ACT
testing, choosing a major, dorm life and writing a college essay, among others. Presenters also
will provide information on various trade and professional careers.

The health and wellness industry will be represented through various vendors, businesses and
health professionals.
Ardrey Kell High School is located at 10220 Ardrey Kell Road.

Attention Rising 11th and 12th Grade Students


The CMS Middle College High School Program is looking for qualified students to
participate for the 2015-16 school year. Get a jump on college by taking college and high school
courses at CPCCs Levine, Harper or Cato Campuses. For more information on the program see
your counselor or Mrs. Rogers in Student Services. Make sure to tell them you are interested in
the Middle College Program.

AP Exams
We are drawing near to this years AP Exam testing period! AP exams are being given May
4th through May 15th, and testing sessions will take place both in the morning and in the
afternoon. The morning exams will run from7:45 am - 12 pm, and the afternoon exams will run
from 11:45 am 4 pm. All AP exams will be administered here at Ardrey Kell. This year we are
testing our largest group of students ever, and we are in need of as many proctors as possible!
Would you be able to help proctor during these two weeks? Below are the dates and times that
we need help:

Monday, May 4th: 7:45am 12:00pm; 11:45am 4:00pm


Tuesday, May 5th: 7:45am 12:00pm
Wednesday, May 6th: 7:45am 12:00pm; 11:45am 4:00pm

If you are available during any of these sessions and would like to proctor/administer an exam,
please let Kristina Morgan, our testing Coordinator, know and she will put you on our schedule.
A training session will be held on Thursday, April 30th from 2:30 3:00pm in the Media
Center for those who volunteer. This training is necessary, and you will receive all of your
materials and an explanation of your responsibilities at that time.

Students will need to bring #2 pencils, a calculator, and a novel to read. These will not be
provided by the school. Other than the permitted calculator, no other electronic devices are
allowed in the testing rooms - NO cell phones, electronic translators/dictionaries, IPads, tablets,
etc.
Junior Night will be held on Tuesday April 14th at 6pm. Guest speakers will share college
application and essay writing tips. Junior students and parents are encouraged to attend. Please
contact Lori DiPierno or Brandon Webb for more information.

Senior Exit Project Boards


The time has come for the Spring Senior Exit Project Boards. This semester the boards will take
place during the school day during planning periods as opposed to one day after school. The
boards are scheduled to take place during the week of April 20-23rd. The Graduation Project
Committee is seeking parent volunteers to serve as an additional board member. Parents of
seniors are not allowed to participate, but all other parents are welcome! Please contact Ms.
Amanda Fairchild at amanda1.fairchild@cms.k12.nc.us if you would like to be a part of this CMS
graduation requirement!

Gift Cards
The AK PTSO Hospitality Committee is collecting $10.00 gift cards for Teacher Appreciation
Week in May. The cards can be from anywhere, restaurants, gas, movies, grocery stores, etc. We
need 215 cards so we can present each teacher and staff member with one during Teacher
Appreciation Week. Cards can be sent in to the front office in an envelope marked Hospitality
any time before May 1st.

Student Services
Seniors
Caps and Gowns will be delivered on May 4th and 5th during all three lunches. Graduation
Announcements and other items not picked up in April will also be distributed on those dates.
Failure to pick up on these dates will result in you having to travel to the Herff Jones office in
Matthews to get your items so dont forget!!

NC Virtual Public High School


If your student is interested in taking an online course through North Carolina Virtual
Public High School for the summer or the 2015-16 school year they need to pick up an
application in Student Services. Courses offered through NCVPS are courses NOT offer at
Ardrey Kell and are in addition to the courses taken at AK. Students will be participating in the
course from home. Summer courses are limited to: Music and Business Recording, NonWestern Art, Music Appreciation, ACT Prep and SAT Prep. Applications are available for pick
up until May 8th but courses fill up fast so dont wait until the last minute.

Juniors
If you would like an individual appointment with your counselor to talk about senior year,
college applications and what you should be doing between now and then, plan on signing up for
a Junior Meeting! Sign ups will begin the week of April 13 in Student Services and meetings will
begin the week of April 20th. See your counselor with questions.

Current 11th Grade Students


If you are interested in attending Presbyterian College and would like to be nominated for a
$2,000 scholarship please see Mrs. Bowen in Student Services. Students will need to score a 110
on PSAT or 1100 of higher on SAT (both math and critical reading only) and/or 24 on the ACT.
Ranked in the top 10 % of your current junior class and have a 3.5 weighted GPA or more.
