CAASPP NEWS
Parents,
Last year our students participated in the California Assessment of
Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). As part of this
assessment system students took a new assessment called the Smarter
Balanced Assessment. The assessment measures student ability to use
the critical thinking, analytical writing, and problem solving skills
needed in today's world. In addition, the assessment measures subject
knowledge in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
Like the new academic standards, these new tests are so fundamentally
different from the tests students used to take that it is not possible to
make any reliable comparisons between old scores and new. Our
teachers have been mastering new textbooks and materials the last few
years. That is why this year's test results will only establish a baseline
for the progress we expect students to make in the years to come.
Lastly, we expect the state to deliver parent copies of student scores in
the next few weeks. Once we receive these reports, we will work
quickly to distribute them to parents. The scores should not discourage,
because they will NOT determine whether or not a student moves on to
the next grade. Rather, the results help us clearly identify student
learning needs so we can strategically adjust classroom practices and
programs to meet those needs.

the AMS Honor Roll and Honor Society. Remember, all
students are eligible for Honor Roll with a grade point
average of 3.30 - 3.69. Students eligible for Honor
Society must have a grade point average of 3.70 or

calculated. Grade point average can be found by giving
points to letter grades and dividing by the number of
classes you have, A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0. So
keep up the great academic work!

their own transportation home. Students will receive
notification of their detention in their advisory class
