3.1

Description of tools in SCRABBLE Interactive 2007 Edition

3.1.5 The Mentor This tool displays information concerning the game and players. It shows the round number, the time remaining, the score and each player's last move. This tool provides help if you are in difficulty in a game mode. You can use it to: Know all possible words for a given position by clicking on Find words. Know the Mentor's best moves with Mentor's advice. Calculate a word score. To do so, first position a word in a valid position on the board and click on Word score. 3.1.5.1 Word Score This window displays the scores for different Scrabble strategies as percentages in relation to the best possible word in each category of scores. The aim is therefore to find the word with the best possible average scores. 3.1.5.2 Description of the Different Scores: Closing bonus squares: Calculates the score for the bonus squares the word occupies. This score depends on the number of bonus squares occupied and their values. For example: "double word score" and "triple letter score" squares will have less influence on the score than a "triple word score" square. Closing board: Calculates the possibilities of extending the word played i.e. the number of single-letter extensions, multiple-letter extensions and extensions both before and after the word.
17

3.1.1 Score

3.1.2 History Displays the history of moves in the game. In certain modes you can go back to review each move played.

Extensions: finds possible extensions for the word indicated. Anagrams: finds anagrams for the word indicated. Search: finds all possible word combinations with the letters indicated.
16

Blocking bonus squares: Calculates access to the different bonus squares on the board once the word is played. The higher the score, the more restricted the access to the bonus squares. Quality of remainder: Calculates the value of the letters remaining on the rack after a word is played, in relation to the letters left in the bag. Joker play: Calculates the pertinence of how the joker is used. Not managing to place all the letters on the rack when one tile is a joker, results in a lower score. This score is valid only when a joker tile is available on the rack. Word score: Calculates the number of points scored by the word played in comparison to the word with the highest number of points. General score: A general score given by the mentor in relation to all the possible words on the grid and all the scores calculated.
