    There are few things we encounter in our day-to-day lives that are not dependent on technology. I tried to count the amount of times I rely on a computer of some kind in my day-today life, but lost count before my first class. This reliance on computers to do our thinking for us has lead to many speculations about the dangers of this dependency. This anxiety was examined famous in George Orwells 1984, and continues to pop up in literature, film and other types of expression as technology continues to advance. While I wouldnt want to compare executive producer Steven Spielbergs and director D.J. Carusos latest thriller to 1984, or any other work it may borrow from (or plagiarize), but it still is a rather entertaining flick that packs a lot of big names and big action.

    KATIE BRADFORD The film stars rising star Shia LaBeouf as Jerry Shaw, a 20-something guy stuck in a rut. He works at Copy Cabana and cant pay rent. Basically, hes living in every University dropouts version of hell. Overshadowed by his overachieving twin Ethan, Jerry never can seem to get out of his brother's shadow. When he returns home one night to find his apartment filled with illegal terrorist materials, and his bank account magically containing three-quarters of a million dollars, Jerry finds himself

    suddenly embroiled in an FBI investigation in which he is the prime suspect. A mysterious woman continues to phone him with instructions, and when he finally follows them he finds that she can control almost every aspect of the world around him. When he meets up with Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan), they both are in a battle to stay alive, obey, and try to escape the mysterious woman using them as pawns in her plan for political assassination. LaBeouf is one of my favourite actors to emerge in recent years, proving himself to be an unlikely but incredibly capable action star while also producing great independent and dramatic work. Monaghan is also good as the distraught single mother forced to tag along with Jerry. While the writing in this film feels rushed and cookiecutter at times (which it is, being written by a team of writers in an unusually short amount of time), the supporting acting talent of Rosario Dawson, Billy Bob Thorton

    and Michael Chiklis, among others, helps to keep this film watchable. It is not perfect though. While Carusos frantic camera certainly lends for exhilarating action, it also makes it very difficult to follow action sequences. This is especially true with the many car chases in the film, in which it is often hard to discern what is even

In all, Eagle Eye provides a great dose of entertainment and action with huge star power from LaBeouf. While the commentary on the perils of technological dependence is recycled and slightly clichd, its still worth the trip to the theatre.
