ABOUT BONDERMAN
Making his first start this season and first since Oct. 1, 2010 at BAL
w/DET.
Selected in the first round of the June 2001 (26th overall) draft by
Oakland...is the only high school junior ever to be drafted with a first
round pick in baseball history.
Traded by Oakland to Detroit on Aug. 22, 2002 as the PTBNL in the
July 6 trade between the 2 clubs.
Earned a spot in the Tigers rotation during Spring Traning after pitching at Single-A level in his only other professional experience.
Made quick rise to the Major Leagues, making only 27 minor league
appearances before arriving in the Majors.
Made his Major League debut as a 20-year-old on April 2, 2003 vs.
MIN (L, 4.0,9,6,6,1,5,HR)...earned his first ML win 4/23/03 at OAK
(8.0,3,1,1,0,5).
In 2006, was a key factor in the Tigers World Series run, going 14-8
with a 4.08 ERA in an AL-leading 34 starts.
Went 67-77 with a 4.89 ERA (639 ER, 1176.0 IP) in 207 games, 193
starts with Detroit over his first 8 Major League seasons.
Signed as a minor league free agent on January 9, 2013.
Is 13-14 with a 4.84 ERA (115 ER, 213.2 IP) in 35 starts in June.

RETURNING TO THE BIGSBonderman last appeared in the Majors in 2010 with the Detroit Tigers when he went 8-10 with a 5.53
ERA in 30/29 GS...he had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in April of 2012...Bonderman was also limited to only 20 games/13
starts combined between 2008-09 due to thoracic outlet compression syndrome in his right chest, including going 461 days between
Major League starts (6/1/08-9/5/09).
IT HAS BEEN AWHILEBonderman, who has 975 days between Major League starts, is the first Mariners pitcher to have at least 975
days between ML starts since Gil Meche (7/4/00-4/5/03) went 1,005 days between Major League starts (where previous start may
have been with a different team)...the longest gap between starts for a Mariners pitcher was Mike Stanton (9/27/75-9/1/82), who went
went 2,531 days between starts Major League starts (Stanton did appear in 126 games in relief in the Majors from 1980-82).
IT HAS BEEN AWHILEBonderman is the first Mariners pitcher with at least 190 career starts to start a game after a gap of at least
975 days since his previous start...the last Major League pitcher with make at least 190 career starts and and go at least 975 days
between starts was Kip Wells (10/1/09-6/26/12), who snapped a string of 999 days between ML starts when he started for the Padres
on June 26, 2012...Wells made 212 career starts between 1999-2009, before missing over two years with injuries...he made 7 starts
vs. the Padres last season.
HOME GROWNBorn in Kennewick WA, Bonderman was originally selected by Oakland 26th overall in the 2001 June draft after his
junior season out of Pasco High School...he is one of only 3 players selected from Pasco High School, but only player to reach the Major
Leagues (also: Jim Pope, NYY in 1966 and Bruce Kison, PIT in 1968)...will become the 31st player to be born or raised in Washington
State to play for the Mariners and first since Sean White (2007, 2009-10) and Matt Tuiasosopo (2008-10), who both appeared with the
Mariners in 2010.
DOWN ON THE FARMBonderman made 11 starts with AAA Tacoma, before being selected prior to his start today...went 2-4 with a
4.52 (32 ER, 63.2 IP) in 11 starts...held opponents to a .302 (77x255) average, while walking 18 and striking out 33...tossed at least 6.0
innings in 6 starts...recorded a ND in the Rainiers 5-4 win over Colorado Springs on May 28 (4.0,5,1,1,2,0)...Bonderman was named
the PCL Pitcher of the Week for April 29-May 5...he tossed a season-high 8.0 scoreless innings in Tacomas win over the Tucson
Padres on May 2nd at Cheney Stadium...Bonderman was the third Rainiers player to be selected for a weekly PCL award, joining INF
Nick Franklin and RH Andrew Carraway, who were selected as the PCL Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 22-28.
