OptiPlex L Series Brand Positioning

The OptiPlex L series of products are targeted at businesses that are focused on acquisition price. These companies require a reliable, managed desktop, but are willing to trade some of the features and benefits, such as long life cycles, managed transitions and Global Standard Platforms (GSPs) that the GX line provides, to obtain an aggressive acquisition price. The table below highlights the feature sets of Dells full featured GX series and the L series.

Positioning
Product Positioning
The OptiPlex 210L is positioned as a value business desktop for companies focused on acquisition price. The system offers more manageability and stability than our consumer- focused Dimension line, but will not offer the same suite of Stability and Scalability features as the OptiPlex GX series. Although no compromise has been made to the quality and reliability of the product, some of the feature sets of the GX series have been reduced. For example, the L series will not be available as a Global Standard Platform and will only target a 12 month lifecycle vs. the 15 month lifecycle of the GX series.

Target Market
The OptiPlex 210L is targeted at companies who are focused on acquisition price rather than long term ownership costs. The OptiPlex 210L is able to offer a more aggressive acquisition price by limiting some of the tenets that the OptiPlex GX series of desktops offers. The GX series of desktops are highly scalable and are designed to span the needs of corporate and institutional users in various environments ranging from value to performance. They feature a full suite of chassis along with Stability. In contrast, the L series offers only two chassis and it does not have the stability promise of the GX line of products such as global availability, long lifecycles or long transition periods.

Summary
The new OptiPlex 210L delivers a managed desktop for basic office applications designed for companies focused on low acquisition price. The new platform is designed as a basic managed PC that can deliver improved chassis capability, productivity enhancements and improved environmental global standards vs. prior generation platform.

Chassis Capabilities
Customer-driven design innovations ensure ease of use The new OptiPlex chassis design provides excellent thermal management designed to lower temperatures and improve overall reliability, while minimizing acoustic noise. Environmental Global Standards

Globally compliant with environmental design standards from TCO99 (Sweden), Blue Angel (Germany), GreenPC (Japan) and TUV (Germany) and Energy Star Lead-free*, reducing the amount of lead and other hazardous substances from date of launch well in advance of the EU directive to help improve
Global concerns over the human health and environmental risks associated with the use of certain environmentally-sensitive materials in electronic products has led the European Union ("EU") to enact the Directive on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS), that is designed to restrict the use of cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead, mercury and certain halogenated flame retardants (PBBs and PBDEs) in electronic products. This directive will be implemented in the EU in July 2006. Similar legislation is also pending in China and various states in the U.S.

Utilizes industry standard BTX layout and power supplies that help provide improved cooling Asset Recovery Services (ARS)
When purchasing new hardware systems, ARS provides a safe and environmentally friendly method to recycle or dispose of used computer equipment. Dell safeguards data by removing tags and labels and overwriting hard disks based on industry standards. Dell recycles used equipment in accordance further to EPA guidelines or can assist in reclaiming money from hardware that still has resale value.
