Congratulations and welcome to new business owner Jessica Chance doing business as Jessicas Dream, a hair salon recently opened at 311 Fourth Street. The site has a long history as a business property and was at one time the location for Hansens Grocery, Schneiders Bakery, Crystal Bakery and most recently home of the Style Hut Salon which moved last year to 261 Third Street. Both the Crystal Bakery and Style Hut were each in business over twenty years each at 311. Jessica picked a good location! May she have many good years on Fourth. Street. Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.
New trash cans, the attractive, green type like those in use on Broadway, will nd their way to 4th St. Youll also see new large, hexagonal concrete planters like the ones at the Italian Market site. Loads of gravel, topsoil and mulch have been delivered for distribution to the planter and tree-wells in the area. If you want a planter in front of your house or business, call 518 272 4972. Theres no charge. Heres a big, big word of thanks to the City of Troy for these improvements.

The April 7, 2006, issue of the New York Times contained a very favorable article regarding Troy entitled Where the nest antiques cant be bought by Fred A. Bernstein. Often we take for granted all the best our city has to offer and may not do a good enough job of promoting Troy which led the author to make the comment has there ever been a case of less effective civic advertising? Ouch! So while we are enjoying Troy lets spread the word and help market our historic city!

There is no other event in Troy that attracts more people then the annual Flag Day Parade and what a day for our neighborhood to shine! The parade route, Fourth Street from South Troy through the historic Osgood, Little Italy and Pottery District neighborhoods is a terric opportunity for tens of thousands of people to experience the hospitality of our city. The tribute to Old Glory on Sunday, June 11 beginning at 1PM, was organized thirty nine years ago by our own Jimmy Pasinella, postal carrier and former Marine who was disturbed by displays of disrespect for the ag. The event takes a great deal of planning by volunteers. People are needed to help. Money is needed to nance the event. Join with your neighbors to support this great event. Donations are being accepted by The Record, 501 Broadway. Don Russell owner of The Irish Mist is once again lending his support by organizing a fund raiser, the Duck Derby. Donate $5 to sponsor a brightly colored rubber duck, then watch hundreds oat down the Poestenkill (from Fourth to Second) to the nish line at The Irish Mist. Don will be right behind the ducks sloshing around in the Kill to make sure that each duck has a chance to nish! The Duck Derby will be held on Sunday, June 4 at 3 PM. Sponsor sign up sheets will be available at local businesses. Last year over $4,000 was raised for the parade. Watch for additional details over the next few weeks.

Get and Give. Getting/asking for help. And giving help. But these two actions must come from the heart. If not, you will experience suck-cess. That is why they are the heart of success. All things good in life come from a source, a beginning. And YOU are that beginning. Everything begins and ends with you. You are the decision maker and re-maker. It also helps if you know what it is you wish to experience and not just do. As in, What do you want to do in life? Youll get more clarity if you asked yourself, What do I wish to experience in life? That opens up a new way of thinking and approaching your desired outcome. Learn to give yourself time, practice and patience. After all, how can you give something unless you have it. Frustration becomes a part of our life when we do otherwise. Its hell. Not fun. And certainly not what we desire. But we think its a short cut, this giving before we have. Its more like a short fuse resulting to a hot head and cold heart. A quick remedy is simply stop being that way. No self imposed punishment. Just stop. And move on. Gather up your things, what youve learned and move on. We may only have one life, but it comes with an unlimited amount of uses and experiences. Ed. Note: The statement above was submitted by a reader. You, our readers, are encouraged to send us your written works for inclusion in the LIN. We will make every attempt to publish appropriate material.
